Better-than-usual effort from Godfrey Ho

Warning: Spoilers
THE SHAOLIN DRUNK MONKEY is another kung fu cheapie made as a collaboration between South Korea and Hong Kong and directed by the infamous Godfrey Ho. It's a little better than his usual non cut-and-paste stories although viewers will quickly realise they're watching nothing more than a straight copy of DRUNKEN MASTER for the umpteenth time.

The unlikely-named Elton Chong is the erstwhile hero, an idiotic character with no skill in the martial arts who gets taken in by an old beggar and trained to become a skillful fighter. Eventually he's good enough to tackle bad guy Eagle Han, who is one of those characters on a killing spree for no real reason. There's a lot of exaggerated humour to see this film through, and the not-bad fight scenes hold the attention to boot.
