In old age Jean-Marie Straub and Danielle Huillet, the greatest husband & wife filmmaking team of all time, made a series of extremely minimalist shorts in which found performers read their roles, often directly from a hand-written script in a secluded wood in luscious color. This entry into that series is a moving portrait of betrayal and intolerance in a southern Italian village. Not surprisingly for a S&H film private property , and its competing subjects, lead to alienation between humans.
