1 Night (I) (2016)

Very Engaging and Relatable Romance
11 February 2017
For me, many romance films often fall flat because they fail to fictionalize love in a believable way. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how 1 Night succeeded in doing just that through its relatable characters and situations. The film revolves around a younger and older couple who are dealing with falling in and out love respectively. It shows how the themes associated with love transcend time, sold by the incredibly rich performances delivered by its terrific ensemble cast. In addition to the great group dynamic, I must also call out Anna Camp's performance specifically because, although she has had great roles in the past, this time she dove head-first into a deeper and more emotional character than ever: one that will certainly mark a highlight in her career. The brilliant dialogue and its delivery create an extremely gripping human element that parallels the one found in the great film Lost in Translation. Lovers of the genre will certainly be enticed by this thought-provoking piece but those who aren't traditionally drawn to romances will also appreciate its true to life nature and leave the theater content.
