The movie opens with Jack stumbling around the streets in a blizzard of cocaine and alcohol addiction. The people closest to him are barely alluded to, until his brother demands he meet him with some terrible news and a task to take on.
I enjoyed this. Jack is a sympathetic and well acted character, the pacing is nice, and the sense of space around the movie works for me.
There is a reasonable story arc and movement in the characterisation.
It hit a spot.
It wasn't the best movie I have ever seen, but it hit a spot.
At the end of Castaway where Tom Hanks is left with his beachball and the woman who drives away and he's there, kind of wondering, thats what this movie is like.
