Warning: Spoilers
"Ce n'est pas un film de cow-boys" or "It's Not a Cowboy Movie" is an 11-minute live action short film from 2012, so this one has its 5th anniversary this year. It was written and directed by Benjamin Parent and he received a great deal of awards attention for it, even at prestigious events like Cannes. Sadly, to this day, he has not made another film as popular and known as this one. And as one of the four child actors in here is on the verge of breakthrough, its popularity may even increase a lot more in the next months and years. Anyway, this is an example of film on film. Two boys and two girls discuss the movie "Brokeback Mountain" and how they saw it etc. So basically I am reviewing a film that reviews another films. Not too shabby. One of the film's biggest appeals is certainly the suspense if any of the kids are under the closet too and if so then which ones would be it. Is the white boy just trying to catch a glimpse at the black boy's dick for reasons of comparison or is there more to it? And there are more scenes like that? It is all left for interpretation and this is one of the best things about the film. It is much more successful in terms of story-telling and subtlety than most of the other (frequantly really really bad) films included on the "Boys on Film" movie series. As for this one here, I recommend the watch. Thumbs-up and make sure you get subtitles if you aren't fluent in French as it is all about the dialogues in here.
