Izetta: The Last Witch
24 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
In an alternate reality in 1939 the nation of Germania is planning to invade Eylstadt, the tiny Alpine country. The only thing stopping them is Izetta, the last of a line of witches, who has promised Princess Finé that she will help defend her country. Flying through the sky on an antitank gun she has the power to control other objects; a skill she uses to thwart Germania's advances. There is a slight problem though; her powers only work when she is near a magical ley line; something that must be kept absolutely secret if Eylstadt is to survive.

Given the fact that this is set in an alternate 1939 and features a witch defending a country one might be forgiven for thinking that it is somehow connected to 'Strike Witches' but it isn't; this is different in many ways. Most obviously the villains are very much human and secondary characters can die. There is plenty of gripping action which is well animated and looks great. The characters are distinctive and believable… within the context of a world where witches are real; the good guys are likable and the bad guys are suitably villainous. There is a conclusion that nicely wraps up the story so I wouldn't expect more. Overall a solid series that features plenty of impressive action, a good story and interesting characters.
