road trip film... two chicks hit the road
23 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Seph and Alex go on a road trip to scatter the ashes of their recently deceased friend Dan. Laura Carmichael and Chloe Pirrie star in this comedy... i'm thirty minutes in, and no laughs yet. (It IS listed under comedies on Netflix.) Some pretty serious stuff here.. they carry a laptop and occasionally play scenes from Dan's video-will as they visit the places he wants to be scattered. I guess the "comedy" part is the quirky characters they run into along the way. So much discussion of death. The confrontation at the ATM was annoying, as was the repeating flashbacks, and the constant swearing, berating and abuse from the guy that's already dead. I think this film has been listed under the wrong category. So... was Seph "confessing" to Alex on the cross, like Jesus ? and everyone's name is symbolic. Seph is short for Persephone... princess of the underworld. Alex... Alexandra... protector of Man. Diana, the woman they pick up, named for the Goddess of childbirth and women, and she talks about her son "Dan", which just HAPPENS to be the name of the friend whose ashes they are scattering. the irony. It's OK. Entertaining as a road trip film, but all the symbolism and the arguing and the anger can take its toll. Not a bad film, just MUCH more serious than i was expecting. Pretty heavy, serious stuff.
