What a delightful surprise! I'm not really sure what to make of this movie. Although it has violence and gore, it's not really a horror film -- more like a psychological drama.
The shopkeeper isn't an entirely sympathetic character on his own, as there isn't much character development going on, but the constant barrage of boorish, drunken antics of the nightclub hoppers makes up for it -- I could definitely see how having to deal with that lot daily would make some a little stabby (think Michael Douglas in Falling Down). The American equivalent would probably be something like being a cashier in a WalMart.
While there isn't a very complicated plot, it doesn't need it. There was just enough gore to induce squeamishness, and just enough violence to add tension. If you're looking for sexy-time, this movie isn't for you -- there is absolutely no skin, and no romantic interest happening.
