Sea Urchins (1929)
4/10
I was not too interested in the subject here

Warning: Spoilers
"Les oursins" or "Sea urchins" is a French(-language) animal documentary from 1929, so this one is already over 85 years old. It is among the early works of legendary nature documentary filmmaker Jean Painlevé and this one is still black-and-white and silent. However, Painlevé made a color sound film on the same subject several decades later. I personally will admit that sea urchins are somewhat unique creatures, but I personally did not find them as fascinating as I hoped I would. Also I am missing Painlevé's humorous take in these early films. It is all very scientific and very sterile. So yeah, maybe this one is really only worth checking out for biologists. I would not recommend it to anybody else. Painlevé has done better on many occasions.
