Backcountry (I) (2014)
8/10
Petrifying, Great Watch
4 April 2015
Backcountry is tightly conceived, written, and executed on every level. I don't think I experienced one false beat in this film. The couple enduring this trial in the wilderness aren't just "Potential Bear Victims 1 and 2." They are established as real people confronting a horrifying ordeal, made extra rich by never knowing, at the outset, if the real villain will be human or animal.

Along the way, it becomes much more than a wilderness survival story; it tests the characters, and allows the audience to ponder the limits of forgiveness and the penalties for pride.

Gloriously better than anything a studio could have produced.
