The original Life Aquatic

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler alert for the Life Aquatic! Consider yourself warned!

Search for the Great Sharks was meta brilliant - though the internet shows no evidence of it, this film absolutely must have inspired Wes Anderson to make the Life Aquatic.

From the uniformed "interns" to the sexy radio operator, from the inane scripted lines to the dog on board that boat, not to mention the search for the jaguar, err whale shark, this film would have made Steve Zissou proud. Bravo, Mal Wolfe, for inspiring a great comedy.

To top it off, just as Wes Anderson's protagonist achieves success in the end, in real life Rodney Fox, the bumbling shark victim of Search for the Great Sharks, was awarded the Indianapolis Prize of 2010, which is the world's largest individual monetary award for animal species conservation. Meta. Brilliant.
