But without the student prince.Instead its a German American teenager form Chicago,played By Gunnar Mollar.I though that Lilo Pulver was 16 in this film,but, she was in her twenties.O.w.Fischer was in his thirties when he did this films.There was a black actress who played the maid,which I found unusual cause in Europe it's white actresses who played the maid.But I realize it took place partially in Chicago Illinois.The a.g.f.a color Cinema photography is great showing the hills and the old Castles of Heidelberg and the atmosphere.This Heimat film shows more of the tourist trap of this city,which today it still is.Was some Heimat films promoting tourism?Well When Lilo receives a letter from Heidelberg that her fiancé,played by, Hans Rieser,that the engagement has been broken and he want to talk to her about it at cocktails ,in Heidelberg.What an expense going from Chicago to Heidelberg just for cocktails .Then her father ,played by Hans Liebelt,tells the story when he was going to collage at old Heidelberg and how he met his kissing cousin Fanny,played by Gardy Granass,what a last name,at his Aunt house played by Margarete Haagen.Like student prince there are some musical sequences,like when the student sing and then put a Wilhelm Hat hat on top of the cities statues and Mollar is blame for it and ends up in jail.The law doesn't mind the students ,who cause the crime ,visiting him and bringing beer ,food and his studies .Boy! it's was okay to drink alcohol in prison?With the wall fill with graffiti from the student prince.Well he doesn't get kicked out of school for it.How Heimat. Then Mollar has to,leave the college cause his father is sick and Mollar can't continues his romance with Fanny.In 1951 after 1912, her father decides it's a good idea too take a trip to Heidelberg and talk to her fiancé,so he can find out how Fanny has been doing.The director Paul Verhoeven,plays the detective to find fanny in Heidelberg.Ruth Niehaus,plays Gabrielle,is Hans new love.Lilo don't seem to mind if he broke off the engagement O.w. Fischer plays and ex prince who has to make a living as a tourist guide,whom earlier he spots Ruth and Hans kissing each other during the tour.Lisa meets O. after accidentally causing his watch to drop in her purse ,accusing her of pick pocketing,that earlier she had rejected him as a tour guide when she heard his put downs against Americans .Well thing straighten out and he drops the charges.Both are pretending to be strangers,which almost breaks up their love.Her father finally finds his true love ,fanny,now played by Melonie Horeschowsky. It turns out that she married the music writer,played by Joachim Brennecke,who got kicked out of the alumni,now portrayed by an older actor ,who's now a successful music writer for Heidelberg.It all end u with one big celebration of a concert .Heimat films always has some kind of festival that in real Germany and Australia would not exist.Excellent worth a watch.07/18/13
