comes close to describing this terrible film. It had very few good things going for it... "spoilers" alert (not that there is much to spoil)
One of the first things you notice is the dialogue. I assume this was shot improv in one go, but the producers never noticed how awful it turned out. Every other word is F--- or B----. I guess that may be how one talks when on the brink of being murdered but still, it really put a barrier between me and the characters. Nothing poetic or cathartic was ever said. I almost wished they would die so they would shut up...
Not that i cared much about the characters otherwise. The two brunettes are malicious c**ts to each other the first half, and the main reason i was still interested is because Kate, the blonde, was charming and strong. But the brilliant writers (DID anyone write an outline for this or did they just ad lib the whole steaming pile?) decided to kill her off leaving us with a couple foul mouthed cheating manipulative b---es. Again, dunno what they were thinking. The men in the film were at a slightly elevated level insomuch as character development. But for war veterans, they are surprisingly bad shots and even worse hunters.
And like any 'horror' movie it is generally just a four course meal of bad decisions, hold the critical thinking (walking into the woods with a guy she'd been teasing all night and being SHOCKED he tries to sex her, not grabbing their guns MULTIPLE times, swimming into barely unfrozen water only to return to shore, NOT playing off the black guy's reluctance...) By the end i was disappointed that anybody on the island was still alive...
The only things i enjoyed were the first fifteen minutes, the scenery, and the credits (both because they meant the movie was over, and they were pretty cool.) I love independent films, I don't crave CGI, SFX, or star casts, but this cringe-worthy movie felt like it had zero effort put into it. I definitely wouldn't purchase it.
