Your Average Timepass 'Masala' Flick... and it manages to deliver.

YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI is a film directed by Ayan Mukherji, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Paudkone, Kalki Koechlin & Aditya Roy Kapoor.

The film revolves around the lives of 4 friends: Bunny, Avi and Aditi, and how Naina meets them. Bunny, Avi and Aditi are your normal care-free attitude people who are just looking to enjoy life any way they can. Naina, a girl who's extremely studious, always tops the class although she has no friends. One day, upon meeting Aditi in a hypermarket, she hears about Bunny, Avi and her going for a mountain-trekking in Manali. She finds an urge to go, in an attempt to let out her wild side as well as make new friends. Thus forms the rest of the story, how her trip to Manali changes her whole lifestyle as well as makes her part of one of the greatest friendships.

Okay, when the trailer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani came out, it was all Indian cinema fans could talk about. One of the reasons were the fact that it had reunited Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Paudkone (ex-lovers) for a movie. When I saw it, I didn't quite know how to react. The exotic locations were great and I really liked the idea of friendship, however, when the thought of love entered halfway through the trailer, I wasn't quite enthusiastic because I thought it would be another 'Love Aaj Kal' which was horrible. In the next month, my television was bombarded with advertisements promoting the film, so I decided to give it a shot, considering the star cast.

By the end of the movie I can say: I liked it. It is FULL of clichés, obviously, but it is the way Ayan Mukherji has directed it that makes it so good. Its not a GRAND movie and comes no way close to 'Wake Up Sid', Mukerji's debut film and what make him rise to fame. But YJHD is a classic masala film with a lot of messages. However, this movie isn't one that you see if you have time to kill; you can watch any time and still have fun.

The replay value is quite high, I suppose. It doesn't fail to captivate your senses with its emotion, humor and acting.

The songs are another topic to talk about. Pritam has manages to hit the charts with his step-grooving songs like 'Badtameez Dil', 'Balam Pichkari' and 'Dilliwali Girlfriend' The acting is, obviously, extremely good considering its star cast. We've got Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Paudkone as the main characters and Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapoor as the supporting cast. I'm pretty sure that's all that has to be said to trigger an idea of how the acting was.

Overall, I would say 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' is a surprisingly good time. It's worth the trip to the cinema and its worth sitting at the bottom of the cinema to watch this film that's an extremely fun ride. 7.5/10
