Although the play "Why Did I Get Married?" toured stages in 2004, it was released on DVD and video in 2006. When my family and I saw it, we fell in love with it! This is just another great play by the magnificent Tyler Perry! What can I say? It has everything that makes a good play; not just a Tyler Perry play, but a play period.
This cast is talented! The casts of Tyler Perry's play have always been great up to this point, but here they seem to work exceptionally well! These guys have great chemistry with each other, and they stand by themselves pretty well, too. I have to say my absolute favorite cast member is LaVan Davis. This guy is too funny! His prayer in Act Two about chicken is hysterical! I hope he does more works with Tyler Perry again; we haven't heard from him since "House of Payne" ended last year.
I do have to say, though, while I really love this play and all of Tyler Perry's other plays that came out prior to this, doesn't it seem like we've seen this before? I know some people say his work always copies itself and it's all the same, but I don't see that. However, I wonder if this is another form of "Diary of a Mad Black Woman." The wife has a husband who cheats with her best friend, she finds another man, and eventually forgives him. I don't know, it just seems a bit familiar. But, even despite that, this play is still very good. It doesn't tell the story the same way as "Diary" does. It has a lot more to offer, and, dare I say, does everything better than "Diary." Check it out, you won't be disappointed. BOOYIKA!
