Dostana (1980)
6/10
Another superhit of Big B
7 September 2012
Warning: Spoilers
DOSTANA(1980) was made in days when Bachchan was the numero uno of Bollywood and he gave hits after hits. DOSTANA(1980) directed by Raj Khosla is the last hit of the director. The film and Qurbani both released in the same year and both had Zeenat in the heroine role, surprising in both she was shown as the modern girl with short clothes

The story is basic, dosti turns into dushmani and blah blah. One friend is a inspector(of course Big B) and Shatru is the corrupt lawyer who helps criminals but both are best friends till one day predictabily Zeenat enters. The film starts with the title song in a college which was quite famous, then it starts off straightaway. There is a funny initial scene where Zeenat prancing in a bikini is eve-teased by Paintal whom she drags to the police station where she meets Amitabh and he tells her if she could check what she wears it would be better in a sarcastic manner, followed by a song Bahot Khoobsurat Jawan Ek Ladki. Slowly they fall in love Finally a rift occurs with thundering and lightning(you get the drift) The film has a subplot of Pran who is a revenge seeker and keeps giving info to Big B(just like Om Prakash did in Zanjeer) There is the main villain Prem Chopra who shoots through a hidden gun inside his suit pockets strangely there are no holes for the suit. After the rift there is a party scene where Big B breaks into a song Mere Dost Qissa(sung by Mohammad Rafi) and then a drunken fight between both happens and finally alls well that ends well. Don't miss the scene where Shatru gives ultimatum to save Big B to Zeenat by saying You will have to sleep with me

Direction by Raj Khosla is decent Music by LP is good, All songs are picturised on Big B except the title song, The title song is fab with Kishore and Rafi doing a superb job Bahot Khoobsurat is fun again sung by Kishore, Dillagi ne Di Hawa is fab too again by Kishore, Asha while Mere Dost by Rafi is good Camera-work is good,

Amitabh Bachchan does his role well as usual, he has done such roles many times Shatrughan Sinha too does a good job, if you could excuse some scenes where he does ham too Zeenat is to show her body and looks and she is good Prem Chopra does his usual bad man act, Amrish Puri is decent Helen and Pran are okay
