? and the contradictions

Warning: Spoilers
Ryan Gosling is at the stage where Edward Norton was a few years ago ie the epitome of cool , a bright young talent much in demand. However i cannot see the comic book adaptations come calling. He is too "indie" - for now at least - and yet here on the crest of a wave comes this drama/thriller which didn't do much except slip under the radar. Fear not as this is an engrossing based on a true story/mystery with a lead role character ideally suited to Goslings acting style, which leaves the viewer with many unanswered questions. It is also as much a character study of a psychotic man, the failure of a son born into immeasurable wealth who cannot connect with the real world. A man who post his wife's mysterious disappearance bizarrely ended up dressing in womens clothes in an attempt to escape the limelight.

The direction and acting are top quality with superb supporting roles from Philip Baker Hall and Frank Langella. I found there to be no boring segments during the whole running time. The film does take on a different tone post the disappearance even veering off in some scenes into the blackest of comedic moments but this does not lessen the interest.
