Killer Klowns Meet Friday the 13th
31 August 2011
Warning: Spoilers
What did I just watch? I expected a low budget slasher film, but ended up laughing, a lot. The film is a very funny and tasteless parody of slasher movies in general, and Friday the 13th in particular. It comes complete with the crazy guy warning the kids of the death curse at the lakeside camp (though this time it's a camp for clowns), the scary leitmotif that clues you into the fact that the killer is coming (a circus clown riff on the Fri. 13th ch-ch-ch, ka-ka-ka refrain), and plenty of gory murders of the camp's teachers and students, who stay in clown make-up and costume night and day, even during sex. Yes, it's that kind of movie.

The sight gags here are as inspired as the ones from the movie Airplane! and some of the lines are funny as well. All the clichés of the slasher genre are cheerfully subverted with circus clown references. Most hit the mark, though due to the low, low budget, not every one works. But when they do, it is hilarious. The ending is very funny, but goes a bit off the rails, though I still liked it enough. The acting ranges from average to below average, but the inspired lunacy of the script keeps it all afloat. The directors/writers set a pace that lets you overlook the shortcomings and have a good time... complete with blood and guts.
