The Italian Sting.
9 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Every one, even the dumbest of the movie buffs, would recognize the equivalent of George Roy hill's THE STING. Luc Merenda plays here Paul Newman's character - or Robert Redford's one - and Lee J Cobb, Robert Shaw's character, the heavy, the bad guy of this story. The same topic. A petty gangster who seeks revenge of his best friend death killed by "The American - Cobb - and who prepares a master plan in order to jeopardize Cobb's organization.

Not really a comedy, but a rather entertaining Italian thriller directed by Fernando Di Leo, who gave us this kind of stuff before. But it's not a masterpiece, with not the power of a Damiano Damiani or Pasquale Squieteri's films about the real mafia. Light film in the American mood. Nothing more. With some split screen sequences. American influence too, I guess...
