Hawaii Five-O: 'V' for Vashon: The Father (1972)
Season 5, Episode 10
9/10
Another wonderful Vashon episode.
10 December 2010
Despite what some think, there were actually four episodes about the Vashon family. This is the second one and it picks up right after the first. Through his own stupidity and hubris, Chris Vashon is killed in a shootout with McGarrett. Yet, inexplicably, the young man's father (Honore) and the grandfather hold McGarrett responsible and vow revenge. In the only weak point in the show, the pair send a photo of a tombstone to McGarrett with his name on it--not exactly subtle or well-conceived if you think about it. Naturally McGarrett and Five-O are on guard and despite this, Honore's plan nearly works. While all of the episode is good, the ending and how they capture the assassin is very good--and reminiscent of an old Sherlock Holmes film where a statue is used to attract the assassin's bullet. Very interesting, though the episodes immediately before and after are just a bit better.
