As we meet Dana Taylor, she is entertaining a group of friends at her home. When her husband Geoff gets in the house, he has bad news. Dana, a woman in the army reserve has been recalled to active service. That could only mean she has a lot of probabilities to go to Iraq. The scene changes into the present, where Dana's prosthetic arm is found floating on the river. The possibility that she had encountered foul play is not discarded. The Cold Case team goes into action to investigate Dana's disappearance.

Dana's role in the war should have been an easy assignment, but being on the road constantly, also had its dangers. In flashback, we get to know what caused Dana to lose an arm during the war. Dana, against her better judgment, stopped in a road for a young girl, that turned out to be a decoy, or a distraction, her vehicle is attacked. As a result, she loses an arm, her pal Tommy is injured, and another soldier is killed.

When she returns home, her world, as she knew it, changes right in front of her eyes. Dana must face the realities of everyday life. Her best friend Tommy is trying to enroll for a second tour in Iraq, something that horrifies Dana. The new realities she finds, plus finding that Geoff has been having an affair with a close friend, proves to be too much for Dana. Tommy, her army pal, has loved Dana secretly, but she would not have anything to do with him, something he does not understand. He is the key in the mystery of Dana's tragic end.

Alex Zakrzewski, a frequent collaborator of the program directed the episode that Samantha Howard Corbin wrote. Leslie Fera shines as Dana. Tim DeKay and Brian Gross have some good moments. The regulars do their excellent work.
