Great tale of newsmen trying to get the story is one of the best films of the year

Warning: Spoilers
Story of a how a fictional local newspaper covers what was the worst airplane crash up to that point (1985) the JAL 123 crash, which took the life of 520 of 524 of the people on the plane. The film focuses on one veteran editor/reporter who is lifted to lead the coverage and the people around him as they try to get the story instead of the big papers from Kyoto or Tokyo.

Crafted like one of the finest thrillers this is a film where you will be sitting on the edge of you seat wondering what will happen next. It is for the most part human drama at its most riveting. Even though I have some reservations about the film (there are too many threads in play, many that seem to come from nowhere and go nowhere, for example the story line of our hero's son kind of doesn't really work and leaves the ending with out the punch we deserve) I think this is one of the best films of the year. Certainly its one of the great newspaper films I've seen. It is a stunning argument for local newspapers and local news coverage since the film continuously argues against taking the copy of the big boys.

If you get the chance you really should make an effort to see this film (And don't let the two and a half hour running time dissuade you, it moves like the wind.)
