Back to You (2007–2008)

I agree with DKOSTY...

Warning: Spoilers
"Back To You" has just run its 17th episode here in Thailand. This was the last episode of the first season (shortened by the writer's strike?) and I am now eagerly looking forward to Season Two.

Like many, I was unimpressed by the first show - but as DKOSTY's comment reminds me, I can say the same for "Cheers" (which ALMOST got CANCELLED early in its first season) "Frazier" (I initially HATED the character of Frazier's Dad - not realising that without the conflict between the two characters, the series would have had little to build on) and even "M*A*S*H" (sacrilege - but I was young then, and expected it to be like the movie).

The thing is, as in life, it DOES take time to warm to new TV characters - and the writers take time to develop them. Granted, Britain's practise of giving a series YEARS to catch on may be excessive (although some of it's most POPULAR series DID take years) but America could learn from Auntie's patience.

And yes, the show is cosy and old-fashioned. But then, tried and tested only means BORING if the PLOTS and JOKES are likewise - and those in "Just For You" are NOT.

Finally, I would add that in my experience, there is often a "defining moment" in a series - one where it suddenly CLICKS. For "Over To You", that moment would be the episode with the subplot involving "The Mural In The Bedroom". And although I ticked the "contains spoilers" box, for the benefit of those who've not yet seen it, I'll not comment further!
