I thoroughly dug The Slaughter. It racks up the clichés, sure enough, but twists each one enough before throwing them the audience's way that anyone settled comfortably in their seat is pretty much guaranteed a good time. We've seen all of the archetypes on display a thousand times before, but they've rarely been presented quite this entertainingly. A comedy stoner who is actually funny! A female lead who's actually interesting! It ping-pongs around a bit in terms of tone; very rarely approaching 'serious' but varying wildly in terms of just how silly it wants to get. A spot of superbly gratuitous nudity, some crackling dialogue and a lot of appealing performances. What more do you want, eh? Blood? Luckily you get buckets of that too.
