A nice and quiet Memento by David Lynch - beautiful!
22 September 2003
Warning: Spoilers
*SPOILERS* ahead

Reconstruction is a somewhat classic romantic drama presented in a special way. Alex and Aimee meet by coincidence (even though one wonders which is the actual first meeting) and seem to fall in love with each other. As they plan their "escape" from Copenhagen they suddenly become strangers to their friends and environment as if they never really existed in the first place. Their feelings for each other are put to the test as the movies keeps the viewer puzzled over the the question whether it's all just the imagination of the writer who is the betrayed husband of Aimee.

A beautiful film with lots of room for speculation like any David Lynch and just as complex yet not as clear and easy to understand as Memento. All of this in a more subtle way, though, as it is not just the intriguing story but the emotions and characters involved that draw the viewer inside...! The movie is stylized and yet does not seem artificial with an old-fashioned theme (love) told in a new way and set in a modern world. The movie succeeds in being a very present but never distracting platform for the display of simple emotions. This seems to be necessary because "otherwise it's just warmed-up Danielle Steel" as the director Christoffer Boe put it.

Nice analogies/resemblances to a wide array of stories and movies ranging from "Orpheus and Eurydice" to "Enemy of the state"! :-) Visually well done this film delivers a somewhat unique experience in the right speed, length, music and everything else. Great directing!

Nicolaj Lie Kaas said afterwards: "We could talk about the film for hours, but I think it's better to take the questions home with you and keep them in your stomach". Even though I do not really need a solution to make this a complete and satisfying movie experience I'd like to hear some additional explanations if there are any!
