This could have been a very good, creepy movie. Instead, the director ruined it by trying to create a Tim Burton film, complete with lame Danny Elfman-like soundtrack. Instead of being a 'horror' movie it ends up as cartoonish and not really scary at all. Crispin Glover as Willard was the only good thing about this movie even though his performance was somewhat restrained for him.
I didn't see the original so I can't say how good a remake it was but if you are looking for a good, scary movie avoid this one.
