Disappointment
23 November 2001
First off, the story and dialogue are a setback to the Transformers. After the surprising depth of the original series, the 1986 movie and the 3D animation of Beast Wars, this is what we get. The animation (or anime) is cleaner and more consistent than the original series, but it's also more static and not terribly interesting. Characters stand around and yell about how they're going to destroy each other before anyone actually does anything. Head 'cepticon Megatron (in only his 5th or 6th incarnation between G1 and this dumb show) seems to do nothing but hover in the air and shout orders. Also, gone are the voices of Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, who voiced Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively. Gone, also, is any sense of personality.
