Review of Jalla! Jalla!

Jalla! Jalla! (2000)
8/10
You love your girlfriend, but have to get married. What do you do?
26 December 2000
This is one of several new Swedish films about cultural clashes involving Swedes and "new Swedes", and it's very good! Roro's family has decided that he is going to marry the beautiful Yasmin, but he doesn't even know her. Instead, he is in love with the blond girl Lisa (played by the beautiful young actress Tuva Novotny), whom he hasn't even yet told his parents about. If Yasmin is not married soon, her family will send her back to Lebanon, so Roro does the only thing a gentleman could do... pretends that he is going to marry her!

This situation of course leads to many complications and misunderstandings. On top of this, there is also the parallel story of Roro's best buddy, Måns, who has some trouble getting his you-know-what to do its job, getting more and more desperate of finding a cure...

All in all, this is a great comedy about love and friendship, and I hope to see more of director Josef Fares' work soon!
