Happened upon this recently on cable one afternoon and thought it was a Mamet film I'd missed somehow. Not sure why this hasn't reached a wider audience or gathered higher praise.
Awesome Sam Rockwell vehicle and twisted buddy movie starring Sam and the always sly and fly Joe Mantegna. Charles Durning and William H. Macy add great character parts as well.

Bottom line is this is a great idea well executed by great players (with a soundtrack that ranges from Quiet Riot to Dean Martin).
