Review of Debutante

Debutante (1998)

wow...a remarkable achievement
28 January 2000
This is quite truly an amazing film and the fact that it's a student film is all the more reason. It has some of the best cinematography I've ever seen in a movie, that includes all Hollywood features. Its use of cold blues and whites add such texture to the film. The story itself is so extremely sad and powerful, ending with an epiphany of hope. Truly an experience, it has more depth at 11 minutes than most Hollywood films. The last scene is heartbreaking and unforgettable. All those involved should be proud, this is one of the best short films I've ever seen. It is because of works like this that I retain hope and respect for the power of the cinema.

Seen at the AIM film festival at USC.
