Review of Matinee

Matinee (1993)
7/10
If you liked the B movies from the 50s...
20 July 2000
Matinee pays tribute to those outrageous radiation mutation movies from the 1950s, and does it well. John Goodman carries the movie, but wonderful performances from all make this a movie worth watching. There is much to laugh about and ponder on as the writing holds a mirror to America during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I especially liked the scene where the character, Sandra, refuses to get down on the floor and put her hands behind her head, saying it would be useless if the bomb were really dropped. How true, but I remember being told to do just that back in middle school. And, oh, the bomb shelter! I can say no more.
