Includes minor spoilers. A chilling movie. Very sparsely directed, some very sophisticated cross-cutting and offbeat rythm. It manages to create a sense of unease although were actually only watching very ordinary day-to-day actions. The juxtapositioning of the eye examination and polishing of an eye-glass is one of those unnerving scenes. And when you know this is based on a true story it´s even more disturbing. I can´t help but draw parallells to Cronenberg´s CRASH, and some of JG Ballards other fiction, and although I like CRASH I wish Cronenberg could have been a bit more structurally daring like this one. Like Hanekes "Funny Games", this movie doesn´t provide any easy answers. A disturbing study of modern life.
