Miles is the great-great-grandson of Henry E. Steinway, the founder of Steinway & Sons, the world famous piano manufacturer. Chapin authored a book, "88 Keys: The Making of a Steinway Piano", and is an expert on Steinway piano making.
His father is former Metropolitan Opera General Manager and author
Schuyler G. Chapin and his mother is the former Betty Steinway, of the
Steinway Piano family.

The Rainforest Reader and 88 Keys -- The Making of a Steinway Piano.
His bio on the Amazon site identifies him as an actor, writer,
environmental conservation consultant and activist, and provides a link
to an interview in which Chapin states that he began writing after
appearing in a major flop movie (probably Howard the Duck (1986).
Was spotted by a talent scout while singing in the Children's Chorus of
the New York City Opera.
Has made performances as a stand-up comic in numerous comedy
clubs.
Chapin eventually gave up acting and became a real estate agent.
