It's mainly a movie humorously celebrating the craft and art of cinema as a plot within a messed up plot driven by the exaggerated self absorbed ego of it's lead actor, Nicholas Cage playing himself.
A movie within a movie that allows Cage to parody his celebrity status and "How Come I'm Not In That Movie" reputation as an aging actor who seems to be in every movie ever made in the last 30 or 40 years...I lost count.
They even parody the current trend in movies lately of CGI'ing younger versions of aging actors having Cage getting weird on his younger self where you're trying to figure out what era they're sourcing the younger version from and of course it's seamless and quite convincing CGI.
I'm laughing as I'm typing this review. This movie is such a refreshing alternative to all the Marvel super hero overkill currently in theaters.
Loved this movie!
