Oh my Godzilla!!!! The best movie of the year.
27 December 2023
Definitely went into this expecting a great movie, only to come out of it a fantastic movie, probably not only the best Godzilla movie ever, but definitely one of the best if not the best film of 2023, definitely deserving of the Oscar for best visual effects and any other entity that gives out a beneficial effects a war, considering the photorealism of every single image involving Godzilla and post war Japan. Majestic in every level, wonderful performances by everyone involved and such an intelligent and relevant and poison script and masterfully directed that there is not a single dull moment in its 2 hours plus running time. This movie is so deserving of a best picture nomination at the academy awards, and then most deserving of the academy award for best picture if it comes to that.

Great opening credit sequence.
21 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The opening sequence, featuring a who framed Roger rabbit style theme and Bobby mcferrin's awesome rendition of the Pink panther theme, is the best thing about this disaster of a movie; it almost seems like Blake Edwards cared more about the quality of the opening sequence than the film itself, how unfortunate for such a great talent, that this movie has nothing of it, if anyone didn't think that things could not get any worse after trail of the Pink panther and curse of the Pink panther, this movie is a resounding yes.

A completely amateurish mess, completely embarrassing, and nowhere in the same league as the naked gun movies, which is obvious this was made to capitalize on the success of those movies. A sad entry in Blake Edwards resume.

Extremely underrated
6 December 2023
People are missing the point of this movie, and politics in our current climate are getting in the way of what definitely is a wonderful tribute to 100 years of Disney, the movie is everything you can ask of a Disney movie, full of great music and wonder to spare, great animation and great vocalization by its great cast, with Ariana Debose the perfect choice to lead the blissful tale.

Great song score that matches the greatness of Frozen, Encanto, Moana and other recent great Disney movies.

This movie is underserving of its poor critical reception and poor box office performance, it is up there with most of great Disney works.

Comedy or a horror tale?
28 October 2023
This is nowhere the hilarious comedy critics and reviews here may want you to believe, This is a true cautionary tale about letting pride get in the way of life, and making abrupt decisions without letting the ones that love you know of such drastic changes, and all their lives turned upside down with irreversible damage.

Mercifully the film is barely 90 minutes long so it is breezy enough to keep you from wanting to strangle both main characters for their lack of responsibility towards one another.

Definitely overrated in my opinion, with Defending your Life, Mother and The Muse far superior directing works by Brooks, definitely funnier and more involving.

Criminally underrated.
21 September 2022
This movie was not advertised correctly by WB. The previews sold it to be a children's movie, and we are glad we ignored that. The movie is at least on the family-viewing level, equally to most Pixar films, and the movie is one of the best superhero movies EVER just like Teen Titans GO! To the movies (also criminally underseen in theaters) and Teen Titans GO! Vs. Teen Titans (at least 99% on Rotten Tomatoes as of today).

This movie has heart and smarts and excellent voice-over work by all involved, and a Toy Story 2 moment that I will not spoil here but brace yourselves for the hankies or the tissue paper, it is masterfully told and played, just like the film, energetic, thrilling, and exciting.

Fantastic Portrayals.
21 September 2022
Meticulous production values, extremely well-performed, especially the queen herself, Oscar-winner Viola Davis. Her portrayal is fearsome and poignant and touching, definitely a performance that will be rewarded and recognized during award season. John Boyega stands out in the female-centric cast, with the next three female leads (Thuso Mbedu, Sheila Atim, and LashanaLynch) doing excellent work and providing inspiring support to the story with richly developed characters. Great battle scenes and gorgeously photographed, a wonderful entry in the genre of African stories that need to be told more and should have been told already.

Ineptitude at its very best.
12 October 2020
I finally realized why I did not see this when it came out and I gave it a try since it was a slow night with ondemand and I checked what was available from Corey Haim. Everything that is dumb about any teen comedy with teen stars is represented with this movie. Completely dumb and inept, even insulting, What a comedown for Haim after Lucas and Feldman after Stand by me. No wonder they both ended up turning into direct-to-video performers. Poor in every level, except for some great 80's songs on the soundtrack.

Beautifully acted
10 October 2020
Wonderful film that deserved to be a bigger movie than it was when released back in Christmas of 96, and what a fantastic cast with beautiful performances by both Meryl Streep and Diane Keaton. Suttle and warm Direction by Jerry Zacks, a beautiful music score and a wonderful song by Carly Simon that should have been given attention for Oscar consideration that year. It resonates more watching it a second time knowing that we lived in the area where the movie was shot, around Brevard County in Florida, especially the cities of Rockledge and Merritt Island. Wonderful memories from that time frame getting that close to a Hollywood production.

Fantastic Film
16 September 2017
This movie truly is a holiday classic; the movie has not aged one bit. Martin and candy are just perfect together under sure-footed direction by the late great John Hughes.

There is no doubt this film will always rank high within its stars' and director's filmography; even the score by Ira Newborn fits the movie perfectly, for all the slapstick and tender and warm moments.

What were they thinking?
11 June 2017
I can not believe this unnecessary retreat was even in the works, and the result is just a far cry from what the original film brought us; the music sounds like karaoke versions of the originals and everybody is a walking, talking, singing and dancing anachronism (on top of severe miscasting in almost every part) of the time and place; this does not do justice to anybody that work in the original film, and it is patched to fill a 3 hour broadcast slot. No, no, no.

The perfect movie for any day of the year.
19 May 2017
This is exactly the type of movie the golden Globes have a Comedy category for, and to think the Hollywood foreign press messed up by not nominating the movie, Bill Murray and Andie McDowell for all the Comedy film categories is a crime and the reason why the Golden Globes lose respectability as a worthy award.

Regardless of that, what a joyful and wonderful film this is, probably the best part of the film legacy Harold Ramis left us. What a fantastic chemistry Bill and Andie have surrounded by a great cast that reacts perfectly to both of them with great timing.

The last larger-than-life musical?
12 May 2017
Probably one of the most underrated musicals of all time (next to THE WIZ), it is a shame that this movie is labeled overblown and excessive, which it is NOT; it is lavish and elegant and larger-than-life.

Barbra Streisand is as magnificent here as she is in FUNNY GIRL, and at least very deserving of an Oscar nomination for her splashy, vibrant and effortlessly spontaneous and vivacious performance.

Gene Kelly not being nominated also for directing this classic is as much a travesty as Steven Spielberg not being nominated for directing the best film of 1985, THE COLOR PURPLE, then again, A.M.P.A.S has made many faux pas over its existence.

Here's to you Dolly Levi, and Barbra Streisand, so glad to have you both where you belong, in such a beloved and highly admired musical film.

Overrated? Over-inflated? just too overlong and boring?
9 May 2017
Well, after finally tackling this "epic" soap opera, is it truly deserving of all its hype? Beautiful Liz Taylor, handsome Rock Hudson, and strapping and intense and methodical Jim Dean, but overall the feeling is just mute, could not wait for the whole thing to just be over with. Compared to Gone with the Wind, it is such a snooze and no character here comes close to the audaciousness and spunk of Scarlett O'Hara or the beauty and goodness of Melanie Hamilton or the tower of strength that is Mammie. Rhett Butler would bitch-slap Rock Hudson's character silly if he had the chance.

Beautiful cinematography wasted in infantile humor.
27 May 2015
Such gorgeous location and top-notch cinematography on a movie you feel sorry about everyone in it except for Seth McFarlane, who has managed to squander his great cast in such poorly executed rubbish. How in the world Amanda Seyfried goes from Les Miserables to this is beyond me.

She had to have lost a bet to take such a step backwards in her career, unless the money was too good to pass for her or everyone else.

So embarrassing I rather just stop talking about it.

There is even a cameo in a barn that shows the ineptitude of Universal Pictures to allow such great property to be diminished in such collection of juvenile, childish and incompetent gags that fall flat from the get go.

Just awful and worthy of skipping altogether.

Sadly underrated and under-appreciated series that was very witty and funny with a great cast of newcomers.
14 June 2014
This show is a perfect example when a show is too good for its audience and it is aired in the wrong network, just like DON'T TRUST THE BITCH IN APARTMENT 23. Both shows had smart writing, comedic wit to spare and a great cast, but they were both too smart for audiences that would rather have the juvenile humor of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and THE KING OF QUEENS, two shows that overstayed their welcome by at least 5 seasons and could have not been more overrated.

Everyone in the cast shines. The concept was great and it is unfortunate that we will not see what other directions the series would have taken, but at least it was given the chance to end and it was given a good resolution to all its characters for the short one season it lasted.

Bad excuse of a sequel
31 August 2013
Already a very unremarkable franchise, this sequel just buries everything deeper in the mud with its far-fetched, bogus and ridiculous action set pieces and lazy dialog. A truly juvenile and infantile animated film that should be avoided by all adults that are looking for an intelligent animated film like any of the Toy Story films. Poor voice-over work by the all-star cast, and the AFRO CIRCUS song gets old quickly. There are some striking and beautiful animation sequences, but they get lost among all the nonsense. It is sad to see that such an empty story and wrong-headed situations are being turned into feature films like this one. A true misfire.

Streisand: Live in Concert (2009 TV Special)
The best experience of my life.
28 October 2011
I can not believe it has been 5 years as of today that I had the privilege and blessing to watch this concert, and what a surprise that it was being filmed for TV and Video. It was an experience I will never forget. Probably the best experience of my life, and to think that right in the middle of DOWN WITH LOVE, there I am, with my arms extended up high cheering the best entertainer that ever lived. Thank you Miss Streisand, for letting me be part of your video, and part of that wonderful night in Sunrise, Florida where you more than raised the roof away of the BANKATLANTIC CENTER; I bet not even the Florida Panthers have caused such uproar in that venue in their entire franchise. 10/28/06 is a date for the record books in Florida and in my lifetime.

Toy Story 3 (2010)

The best PIXAR movie ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7 August 2010
I think Pixar reached its paramount with this film. From now on all they will be able to do is make very good films, but nothing will match the wonder and accomplishment TOY STORY 3 represents.

I do not think there are enough superlatives in any language to describe the impact and importance this movie has and will have in the world of cinema.

Deservedly so this movie is, as of August 2010, the biggest G-rated movie of all time and Pixar's biggest hit.

As far as I am concerned, this film is the best animated film ever (combined with the other 2 TOY STORY films), the best sequel ever (combined with TOY STORY 2), and all TOY STORY films are the best movie franchise of all time.

Music score.
27 December 2008
This episode has a montage when the main character takes photos around the neighborhood, which is extremely evocative and moving.

Not only that, but the accompanying music piece that underscores the scene is truly magical and touching as well.

The creators behind this sure knew how to marry the images to the music, extremely beautiful.

The acting by the lady who plays Rita and the extras surely take you to a different time and place.

Truly moving.

I would like to see the music piece available in a soundtrack.

Superbad???????? More like Superhorriblybad!!!!!!!!!!!
18 August 2007
What a bummer of a movie, all the hype for nothing.

About 40 minutes too long, and insipidly written, with flat jokes and amateurish pacing and clunky dialogue.

Michael Cera is very likable, but it is almost like you can tell he is uncomfortable being in the movie.

I definitely expected better from Seth Rogen; maybe next time.

And to think people here are calling it the best teen comedy since "American Pie". This movie is far from being close to that one by a longshot.

3 younger couples left before the halfway mark.

You have been warned.

Lackluster just like the previews indicated.
9 October 2005
Well, Lackluster box office indicates only one thing: LACKLUSTER MOVIE. It also shows that not every idea about resurrecting a TV show (and on top of that, a canceled TV show) is a clever idea. They should have just saved the movie for the SciFi Channel or a DVD premiere where it belongs with its limited production values and limited acting (save for Chiwetel Ejiofor, the classy actor from DIRTY PRETTY THINGS, and Summer Grau, she did manage to bring enigma to her physical role). Was I the only one that saw how this movie did not manage to bring anything new and exciting to the Science Fiction genre? At least George Lucas's movies entertained, even if they lack originality and heart.

What else can you say about a movie that not even its alleged fans are supporting in its theater run?

Yentl (1983)

A TREMENDOUS ACHIEVEMENT
29 September 2004
Reading the few awfully and derogatorily negative reviews for this film here on the IMDb, it still befuddles me about the total oppression and negativity that people throw out of their mouths without expressing themselves in a more precise and intelligent manner, mainly on a film that presents such important issues and social commentaries. Even though the film is set in the past, all it says is still very noteworthy and easy to relate to in the past few decades and definitely in the decades to come.

YENTL is a film to be shared and enjoyed regardless of ethnicity, religion or background. Its universality speaks and raises voices to different generations and social groups.

Motivational, moving and exquisitely shot with rich period flavor and mood (AND THIS IS WITHOUT HAVING SEEN THE DVD YET, SINCE IT IS NOT AVAILABLE, AND MS. STREISAND HERSELF NOTED THAT THE COLOR TINT ON THE VHS TAPE IS INCORRECT, SOMETHING SHE HAD CORRECTED FOR THE UPCOMING DVD), this is the type of story about conquering your fears and stop at nothing to achieve your dreams that is fatally missing from films in our present time.

If there is an aspect to this movie that is the most formidable, it's the music and songs in it that's what is most successful about it, since they carry the story as it progresses through its tale of passion, love, struggle and perseverance.

Ignorance has kept the film from being enjoyed and appreciated by several groups and individuals. Hopefully someday they will find the courage and wit to understand such incredible gem.

Shattering and unforgettable
10 August 2003
Soderbergh delivers a heartfelt story that is both entertaining and compelling, without getting too overly sentimental, but moving and inspiring nevertheless. The impeccable cast includes a smashing young Jesse Bradford and a very appealing Adrien Brody in an early role. A definite must.

Well, it is out there, and...
16 May 2003
I am surprised of how mixed my feelings were after leaving the theater. Was I blown away or did I just see an exaggerated version of the first Matrix? The movie had too much padding (the overextended scenes at Zion during the celebration and Neo/Trinity's love scene) and so much philosophical mumbo jumbo throughout that it started to concern me where the 150 million dollar budget went to. But then the action sequences started kicking in, and after all was said and done, all I wanted to do was to go home and watch the original Matrix so I could be blown away by its audacity and originality, something I hoped this overblown, over-budgeted sequel would do. Probably they are saving the real razzle-dazzle for "Revolutions". We shall see.

P.S. IMDB users, please do a spell check before posting your comments. The whole world is watching, and hopefully, not laughing.

A Chorus Line (1985)
8/10
So underrated... (or so poorly rated). A gem on its own.
12 April 2003
Watching the newly released DVD of A Chorus Line, I rediscovered a film I have enjoyed many times in all its poor VHS incarnations, or in other words, I had never seen it looking so gloriously dazzling.

MGM/UA Video has done a marvelous job transfering the film and presenting it on widescreen and digital sound; I was astounded and captivated and moved by every tap and step and note of music. I have always been saddened by the poor reception and bad criticism the film had in 1985 when first released. Somehow I manage to appreciate the talent behind it, the intentions of the filmmakers, and the film itself, which, even though no classic, sure stands as a record of a great Broadway show that not everybody was able to enjoy during its run or tours.

If you ask me, the film gets 3 out of 4 stars.

I found it exciting, funny, touching and technically well made.

"Surprise, Surprise", "Let me Dance for You" and "One" have never sounded richer and crisper than in this DVD version, and the spotlights are as blinding as the sun in the impeccable digital and widescreen transfer.

Kudos to MGM/UA for bringing to life this deserving "SINGULAR SENSATION".

I can not wait to see how MGM/UA will present "YENTL" on DVD. It will be glorious also, I tell you.

Well, YENTL debuted on DVD in a masterful edition that corrected the color scheme of the movie ruined by the VHS release, it was about time. Thanks MGM/UA and Barbra.

A Chorus Line had its Turner Classic Movies premiere on May 21st of 2023 and what an amazing event it was, introduced by Ben Mankiewicz with awesome insights before and after the movie, with Ben calling the movie a gem on its own for those that did not catch the Broadway show. Swell guy.

Unfortunately, Ben made the error of calling this movie a Columbia Pictures project after Universal Pictures sold the project; Columbia Pictures only released the movie; it was a project of Embassy Films (The Graduate) and Polygram Pictures (Four Weddings and a Funeral), with both companies co-producing the movie and the former being the one company that bought the rights from Universal.
