My Favorite Episode!

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know what to make of the show initially. I thought it was slow, however it feels like what reality tv should be minus talking to the camera and confessional monologues. These little slices into people's lives are so much more realistic. The relationships are complicated and tenuous and awkward and so REAL. In this episode Andi grows up a bit realizing the fantasy she held of Ryan was just that. Kyle, who was by really all in on the whole open marriage idea has found a place of comfort and identity perhaps for the first time in the past year or so. Andi returns to Kyle unwilling to return to their sexless marriage but unsure how to move forward, slightly crushed as Kyle confesses his love for Amy. Now with the mirage of Ryan completely evaporated, Andi now wants Kyle to only think about her and not look at his phone. An amalgamated goo of emotions stew in this barstool conversation between a couple, a husband and wife and newly found strangers.

Holy cow

All the time wasted watching three years of this show, but the final scene in this one with Kyle and Andi, and actually the one before that with Kyle and Amy, a real payoff in both writing and acting, glad I stuck with it.

So. Damn. Real.

It's hard to believe it's acting. The words and emotion are those of someone who's lived the complex experience of a long-term, solid relationship navigating the complexities of openness. When's the last time you watched conflict on screen and agreed 100% with both sides? It makes me not want to watch anything that's not mumblecore anymore; it's just incredible.

Best episode of them all

Wow. I had to write a review on this. The character development is slow, yes, but it's brilliant. It feels so real. Elizabeth Reaser is phenomenal in that last scene she had me in tears... just felt so raw.

Unbelievable dialogue
thomas-bickerstaff18 November 2019
I've been invested in Andi and Kyle's relationship since season one. A stale marriage seeking to open up to nee explorations. But that last 20 minute bar scene was one of the best dialogue's I think I've witnessed. Nothing there felt like acting. I can barely believe that script was written. It was such an honest, real, emotional, and difficult conversation between two people who have been through so much together. I was glued to the screen. Everything each of them said, expressing themselves while trying to navigate where their relationship is going to lead.

Honestly unbelievable

Simply Amazing Acting!
xjumper6511 February 2021
The last 20 minutes of this episode felt more real and conveyed the messy mix of emotions of a complex relationship more genuinely than any stage, cinema, or television production I've ever seen. I've thoroughly enjoyed the naturalistic writing and acting as well as voyueristic peak into the intersecting lives and relationships of these characters, but even if I had been less enamored with this series, this episode alone would have been the pay off that made the journey worthwhile. Elizabeth Reaser gives a career defining performance in just 20 minutes with a heart-wrenching, eerily real, resonant, and astonishingly vulnerable performance. I can only imagine how difficult that must have been to undertake and I can only hope that was shot in one take because the thought of her having to go through that multiple times seems torturous to my mind. This should be her submission for an Emmy and if she doesn't win I would be shocked. Brava Ms. Reaser, BRAVA!!!
