Sharon Horgan has been busy co-creating sitcoms aimed primarily at women.

This first episode of Women on the Verge is a salacious look at a trio of middle class women who seem to be a part of the cosmopolitan Dublin set. Two of them looking to have babies.

Katie changes her mind at the last minute when she goes for artificial insemination. She already has a daughter with her ex husband. Katie is rather put out to find out that his ex's new partner is already pregnant.

Alison is on a date with her clumsy ex boyfriend. In happier times she used to encourage him going climbing without his mobile phone. Now she wants to get back together with him. He is delighted although it seems he was playing the field while they were apart which seems to put out Alison.

The main focus seems to be waspish magazine writer Laura played by Kerry Condon. She has regular sex with her married boss. The opening scene is them at it at the disabled toilets in a bar. Laura finds her brother outside waiting to get in to change his baby's nappy. The baby Laura is earmarked to be godparent to.

However having an affair with her boss is not helping her career, as she has been demoted to obituaries. She gets in touch with a psycho-therapist, played by Horgan herself.

This tale of 30 something women and their relationship issues just feels like a British Isles version of Sex and the City lite. It is mildly funny. The therapist angle just means that these are women on the verge of a breakdown.
