I got it all wrong, and that was great!
isabellacheng4 October 2021
Given Syd's power, and the birth and early childhood scenes, I thought the idea was that Syd gave birth to herself, that in most scenes she and her mother switched places, and the struggle was that all she could kiss or touch was herself (as another person). That only with David's psychic powers could she kiss and touch as herself. But boy I was so wrong.

I still cannot fully comprehend the meaning of the conclusion, but it is impactful. It will certainly occupy my thoughts for quite a while. Having finished "Lucifer" the TV show not too long ago, helped me frame the religious allegory better. Seeing others' reviews, perhaps it's only that my life experience couldn't relate. I had it easy. But that's also something I have always wanted to understand, as a person, what happens on the other side of the aisle. This would be my favorite Legion episode, so far.

Hits you like a train in the last 4 minutes
tt0025 April 2018
Over the course of the episode, the narrative keeps changing from Syd's desire to connect with others to being bullied and self-harming until you realize the common thread that connects all of these events, namely the human strive of survival. Adversity is what makes us stronger. I bet it sounds clichéd to a lot of people who think have had a tough life (I can hear them mumbling: "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger) but for those of us who truly suffered like David and Syd, this episode is a revelation that had a great impact on me (a positive one). Possibly a greater impact than countless self-help books that I've read or therapy sessions that I've attended and for that, I think this episode has been the best one yet thus far, thank you!

Amazing Episode a true masterpiece
renykljan30 April 2018
I am writing this review because i see that the ones before don't give out any respect to a masterpiece.I think this episode deserves 9-10 just because the way it was build up with psychological elements.I loved how the meanings where hidden between the lines. The episode had so many different layers of thought processes. It shined a light about lot of different concepts of ideas of why are we the way we are in what point of life we experience this things that make us change the way we see the world and see our self. The last 10 minutes just took my mind into the show and spit it back out at the end.I have to say this was true psychological masterpiece. That's why i love this show and i am sad to see that lot of people do not understand the greatness behind it.

My personal favorite episode so far
Br4ve-trave1or5 June 2018
Out of the 12 parts there are two that I'd say are possibly the best episodes but part 12 is my personal favorite of the series this far and is the fourth of season 2.

This episode left a huge imprint on me leaving me with huge emotional impact executed so incredibly, that I barely blinked this whole episode.

Syds maze is much like mine and much like David's. Facing adversary and it molding and shaping you to become stronger as an individual! The speech given at the very end is so moving and gripping!! It leaves me flabbergasted that anyone can be complaining about filler episodes or weirdness when these first 4 episodes have felt like a thunder storm!!

Thank you FX for renewing this series for a much deserved third season and being a cable provider that sticks with critically acclaimed shows despite low viewership!!! More networks need to take note. Besides canceling Terriers, I love FX!

With Ryan Murphy leaving for Netflix, something tells me theyll wsnt Noah Hawley with his 2 package deal (Fargo, legion) for a long time to come.

Dont listen to the negative reviews but if you agree that it's not up your alley, that's just fine ONLY this very episode is so brilliant that I cant believe anyone not feeling affected by it.

Simply stunning and dazzling! Look me in the face and tell me there wasnt a story behind this style????

burn with me......
bektaskonca25 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the 2. series was getting worse by the minute than this happened, i can tell you that this was the best script and directing i have seen since natural born killers, acting was top notch, director should see awards and script is something only a person who suffered abuse as a child would understand, i grown up in orphanage and seen abuse first hand this film captures a mind of a sufferer who dreams all his life for some one to say BURN WITH ME as sid said with all the pain in her heart, this never happens in real life but to see it in the movie where sid did not matter much in comic version, legion comic where villain is everything but the film changed all that in an excellent way, i hope to see more episodes like this one where script is deep and meaningful, i would like to see more directing like this from who ever the director is, thanks again for all the film indistury has given us just to escape this crap hole of a society for at least 60 min.....

Beautiful tale of love...
arusinghnz11 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
1st review of an Legion episode. This episode explores the Syd's life through the years before meeting David. Its an interesting exposition and also shows what drives her as a person in her adult years. Having been through the institution and surviving it by escaping it in season 1 and then finding, David again after losing him at the end of season 1, we finally get to the core of her being.

Someone wrote that its the weakest episode so far. Maybe they were looking for another pop corn episode with guns and deaths?

But, as important as actions and flashy scenes are, if there isn't any emotion in it, its just another pointless moment in television. I am sure all of us who watch this episode, will come back to it over and over again, long after the season is done.

This is a love story, after all, about two lovers, albeit with especial powers. And, its this love that drives the series. Even in season 2 episode 1, Syd tells, David to never lie to her. Isn't that what every lover wants? Never to be lied to because that's what inevitably kills a relationship.

And if you have seen the previous episodes, then you have seen, David, tell Syd the truth and now, here in this episode she tells him the truth about herself. That's more powerful than any flashy explosion death episodes.

Once again, ~40 minutes with little progress in the story.
rsvp32126 April 2018
Other than to expose Syd as sadistic and evil in her own right (framing the a-hole male schoolmate, and her mom's boyfriend for extremely serious crimes), this was another episode of nothing.

I know there are fb campaigns to manipulate votes on other shows here, judging by the unbalanced numbers every episode, I wonder if there's one for this show?

Unnecessary
jwwalrath-227-8548726 April 2018
Visually, this was a very well shot episode. Very theatrical.

Everything else, though, I wasn't big on. Found this to be the show's weakest episode. The whole thing felt like filler and there just wasn't enough to justify its existence. The focus is on Syd's childhood and a lot of it you could have guessed already based on context. Syd is a lot less sympathetic due to a certain scene and her revelation at the end just felt super jaded.

Made me quit the series
tdurrrden16 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Forcing the victim narrative and rationalizing toxic manipulation of a clearly evil character (Sydney) is despicable. A mans life has been ruined by her actions in the worst way possible and David is basically blackmailed to believe and say otherwise, or she will simply say "again" and waste his time (in the middle of a serious event only David can sort out) so her ego can be infinitely stroked with David's admissions of love. She is not a protagonist or "stronger because of her struggles", she is an evil, selfish and sadistic manipulator that I simply cannot blindly accept as some hero of the series. I can only assume she continues to make everything about herself and uses toxic emotional blackmail without anyone calling her out, and I don't feel like watching that for another season and a half.

Syd is evil
hctarver9 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
She put this mentally unstable and love-struck man through torment just to say "burn with me." He desperately tried to understand her. Going through her life multiple times. The only reason he came to the wrong conclusions is that the parts SHE chose to show him were to purposefully give him the wrong conclusion. She wanted him to suffer, as if he hasn't suffered enough his own life and experiences (which she obviously has no interest in for her own perspective) for him to prove to her that he loves her enough to reach the conclusion she wants. He even acknowledges her straight horribleness of her past, ending up revealing that she straight up raped her mother's boyfriend and said nothing as he was carted away, life completely ruined. Then she has the audacity to handwave any of his attempts for her own perspective. No hint, no help, just eyerolls "try again." This isn't a story of love, this is a manipulator who has no accountability using and abusing her partner.

Worst episode so far
thebig-e-019042 May 2018
It's fine to get to know Syd's backstory but this is a bit much, slow and drawn out. Get on with it. Some interesting stuff but over all too repetitive to enjoy.

I really like this show... but
wharton-1792025 April 2018
This entire episode felt like busy work. It could of been a 1 minute episode, and explained everything that happened. I would of been happier than wasting an hour of my life on run-on nonsense. This episode takes place where it left off, inside Syd's maze. It repeats itself 4 times as he tries to figure it out. The only significant storyline takes place in the last 2 min.

Groundhog Day X Legion
michaelbenjaminjim25 April 2018
Horrible waste of time. Could've been as impactful if it was shorter. For her being on main characters. She is my least favorite, I would've preferred to watched a full episode about any other main character. Only reason she is around is because David would leave if it wasn't for her, that's her contribution to the team. We get it, everyone hurts and sometimes more than not it replays in your head over and over again. Why did she deem it fit to test him to make him figure it out rather than explain it to him. We already know she can't touch you without her powers affecting the other person, now she can't explain herself either?

wasted 40 min

Not exactly 40 min cause I fast forwarded all the loop parts. I don't understand how people can give a 10/10 to this, it is clearly staged. Anyway, 1 more episode where nothing happens, giving up on this one
