Exclusive: In a competitive situation, NBC has landed a single-camera comedy starring and executive produced by Oscar winner Marlee Matlin, with a script commitment plus penalty. The project hails from writer Ben Shelton (Candy Jar), Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Universal Television.
Written by Shelton, who is proficient in Asl, the Untitled Marlee Matlin Project is set in the cutthroat, fast-paced world of sign language interpreting. The workplace comedy centers around a medium-sized interpreting agency in Los Angeles managed by DJ (Matlin), who’s both overextended and overconfident.
The project is based on an original idea by Kaplan who conceived it while watching the daily Covid press conferences in the first months of the pandemic which all featured sign language interpreters.
Kapital executive produces via his Kapital Entertainment alongside Shelton and Matlin. Jack Jason, Matlin’s sign language interpreter of three and a half decades, also will executive produce.

Netflix has given a 10-episode order to coming of age series “Ginny & Georgia” starring Brianne Howey of “The Passage” and newcomer Antonia Gentry.
The hour-long young adult series will star Gentry (“Candy Jar”) as Ginny, and Howey as her mother, Georgia. The series comes from first-time creator Sarah Lampert and first time showrunner Debra J. Fisher, with Anya Adams of “Glow” and “Black-ish” directing the first two episodes.
According to Netflix, “Ginny & Georgia” follows angsty and awkward fifteen-year-old Ginny Miller (Gentry), who often feels more mature than her thirty-year-old mother, the irresistible and dynamic Georgia Miller (Howey). After years on the run, Georgia desperately wants to put down roots in picturesque New England and give her family something they’ve never had… a normal life. For Ginny, that means navigating a prestigious school, rising popularity, and complicated love interests. But it’s not all carpool and Kombucha as Georgia’s...

While most of the toys in the Toy Story universe have been harmless, Toy Story 4 is returning to its Big Baby days with a sinister vintage doll named Gabby Gabby, voiced by none other than Christina Hendricks.
Hendricks began her career as a model for well over a decade. Before her big break, you may have recognized her on shows such as ER, Firefly, and Kevin Hill. But over the years, Hendricks's standout role definitely has been that of Joan Holloway on Mad Men. Her part as the formidable and omniscient '60s office manager on the AMC series garnered her a total of six Emmy nominations during her run between 2007 and 2015. Of course, her momentum on the small screen didn't end with Mad Men. Hendricks also recently appeared as Olivia Rogers on Amazon's The Romanoffs and currently stars as suburban mom-turned-criminal Beth Boland on NBC's Good Girls.

"This is you're future, and you are going to win." Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Candy Jar, from indie director Ben Shelton. This quirky comedy is about dueling high school debate champs who are at odds on just about everything forge ahead with ambitious plans to get into the colleges of their dreams. Of course, even though they're at odds, opposites attract and then sparks fly. Candy Jar stars Sami Gayle as Lona, and Jacob Latimore as Bennett, with a cast including Christina Hendricks, Uzo Aduba, Helen Hunt, and Tom Bergeron. This honestly looks fun, though nothing new (see Rocket Science), but I admit I am curious to check it out. Here's the first official trailer for Ben Shelton's Candy Jar, direct from Netflix's YouTube: An introverted high school girl from a working-class background (Sami Gayle) and her wealthy debate team nemesis (Jacob...
