Excellent Film, strong message and what a blast to see MODS doing their thing! Mark Wingett still riding, still looking like he enjoys what he was a part of

Delightful drama highlighting the plight of those with MS
cameronmoon19 June 2020
Thoughtful and well made drama centering on those whose lives have been affected by MS. Everyday lives which non sufferers take for granted are bought sensitively to light from the view point of those who have to live with the condition. Wonderfully shot and scored. It deals with the issues at hand head on without ever shying away from the subject matter. MS affects everyone around the person suffering from the terrible condition such as family, friends carers etc. The film perfectly captures the plight and struggle of these people whilst also maintaining a great sense of humour and spirit in the face of adversity. Faultless performances from the cast and with incredibly sensitive direction from Crow. Marvellous score and wonderful location work bringing the Brighton Mod scene to vivid life. My only complaint is that I wish it were longer as I would have loved to have spent more time in the company of these characters however I hear there is a sequel in the works. Bring it on I say!

I don't understand how people have rated this film so highly!
jckburton18 March 2019
I was over at a friends who had this movie, we were both massive fans of Quadrophenia & I had heard this short was in the works. When I read about this movie coming out a few years back it was hinted at a follow up to Quadrophenia, it isn't. There is a message in here about how hard it is being a carer and the sacrifices you have to make, So with that in mind I haven't given it a 1. The main problem with the movie is the acting, in a word it's terrible the accent of the mother is shocking, (I think she could give Dick Van Dyke In Mary Poppins a run for his money at the worst accent ever) and that combined with the lazy script writing (how many times does she swear in the movie?) there's plot holes in it too but for me I was just really disappointed in it. Other people seem to like it maybe it's just me that's wrong.

Real heart warm film
funkystu26 January 2019
Being is a film that brings a real life situation to the big screen. Devlin has created a film with a new actor josh, who plays his roll as a young carer to how hardship and realaity happens with children that care for sick parents. the point has been done by the use of mods and scooters. if you want a short heart string pulling film. then get the popcorn out,dim the lights and relax.to a wonderful movie. ❤❤

Nice idea
jinblurworld19 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
When I first heard about this film it was via an article that said they were making a sequel to Quadrophenia. It is not in anyway shape or form a sequel to that classic film. The film follows a young carer called Buddy and his struggles balancing looking after his poorly mum, coping with school and being a bit of a social outcast. The film's heart is in the right place but the acting at times especially the accents is below par. The one saving grace of the movie is The Who are on the soundtrack. Probably if I had to describe this movie in one word I would call it a cringe-fest. Another thing to mention is the unnecessary use of bad language which doesn't add anything to the movie.

This is great short film by Devlin Crow. Superb acting by the cast, and good to see Jimmy's Lambretta from Quadrophenia making an appearance too.

Mods, MS and a young carer on the edge
robertsgeoffreyp30 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film follows a young carer, Buddy, looking after his mother who has MS. He is a bullied outcast who is rescued one day by Mark Wingett, playing himself as an actor from the film Quadrophenia, and his girlfriend. His rescuers persuade his mother to let them take him to a mod gathering in Brighton for fun and frolics. The film tackles many issues in a matter of fact way, particularly the struggle between the mother's need for her son's daily help and her son's need for a life outside the home. In the end it's very uplifting but the emotional turmoil of the mother and son is explored when he is offered a day of respite. The objectivity of Mark Wingett and girlfriend, looking in at the relationship from outside, is used to address the mother's fears and trepidation of losing her son. It is well acted (surely Joshua Farley, who plays Buddy, is a star in the making), has some stunning location shots and, with the band's permission, that driving Who soundtrack. What's not to like?

A really well written script, that empathises rather than sympathises with sufferers of MS. It highlights the role of their carers and the pressure they have in their lives away from the daily grind of caring. It also highlights the wide age range of the appeal of Modernism, music and scooters, from youngsters to people of all ages and the ability to create friendships within the group. A great short film, with excellent use of music, bringing Quadrophenia into the modern day with the film clips used and keeping the interest in the scene.

Mods Of Your Generation "Being" Film Review

"Such a powerful message about the struggles of dealing with multiple sclerosis and the effects on young Carers. A nice little nod to the mod scene, Quadrophenia and The Who"

looking forward to the follow up.

Great short film
tracieanncook20 March 2021
I recommend this film, not just for the niche mod market but for the wider audience too.

It has a very good storyline which is brought to life by a cast who are both likeable and believable. Not to mention, the young gentleman lead, star in the making without a doubt. Definitely worth watching

What makes this film special is that it shows great understanding of living with MS and the strength of young carers.

Of course, without a doubt, mods will like this film. There is a nod to the cult classic, Quadrophenia, including one of the faces, one of many from the film who became a household name. It has a teenager discovering the mod scene. filmed in Brighton, has scooters, good soundtrack. What's not to like. This film is a job well done.

The end of the film leaves you wanting more, wishing it was longer, hoping there's more in the pipeline.

For me that makes me feel like I've just watched a great film.

the film being
petemckenna-3591312 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Watched the best short film I've seen and really hammers home what it is like to be a care worker having experienced that lonely painful path some time back in my life. Devlin's attention to detail and love of Brighton shines through brilliantly. Being a Lambretta Mod back in the day. He has nailed all the essential scooter details and more and the way the friendship develops between young and old is just beautiful like a sweet swinging northern soul record you just want to slide along to. Just wish it could have stretched to a full length 90 minute excursion but I live in hopes that one day it might be the catalyst for just such a cinematic experience. Massive best wishes Devlin on a job well done and anybody who hasn't seen it - then make sure you do as it needs to be seen - onwards upwards Devlin - best wishes Pete McKenna.

Uplifting Film With Great Performances
Norman-Cooke9 March 2022
I really enjoyed Being. The film just popped out on blu ray and was visually stunning. Great performances and the soundtrack was awesome. Some nice nods to Quadrophenia and mod culture. A very uplifting film that really does send the message out regarding the role of carers and the sacrifices they make for love.

A great watchable film which leaves you wanting more of the characters and where their story would continue.

Being
vand-3877512 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I recently watched this powerful short film which showed how raw the feelings are for people trying to cope with MS. It also shows how kindness and understanding can greatly help individuals and families who are struggling with the situation whilst trying to deal with their own emotions. So the film also has a very positive message too.

Not a sequel
bobbyorangina9 January 2022
This short film sensitively deals with the tough reality of a young lad coping with coming of age and caring for his unwell mother. But his dreams come true when he gets to meet and spend a truly memorable day in Brighton with mods and plenty of scooters. Although there's the obvious Quadrophenia connections, Jimmy's Lambretta, "Dave" and an appearance by Ferdy, the film doesn't rely on this, it's an uplifting story of kindness, love and a fascination fulfilled. A feelgood Way of Life.

Wow!!!
hrsnzeli23 March 2022
I stumbled upon Being a few weeks ago, and ordered the Blu-Ray. What a pleasant surprise it was to watch. It was nice to just watch a story that ties into the Quadrophenia movie, which I have watched many times since first seeing it in the theater in 1979. This short film is well- conceived, -written and -acted.

It will be watched many times!

If you're a Who and/or Quad fan, it is well worth your time and the small purchase price! I'm hoping there's more!
