Amusingly intimate
bob the moo29 March 2017
Working late, Holden gets a call from his ex-girlfriend seeking support in the wake of her grandmother dying. Holden goes over to give her someone to be with, but the grief ends up opening up some lingering intimacy and affection.

It was interesting to read on the site that featured this short that actually it was based on a real experience for one of the creators, and this short was there way to try to process what that evening had been. This personal experience is a strength of the film, because after some awkwardness in the interactions and setup, the film does have an amusing and engaging intimacy between the two characters. The viewer doesn't know them from before, but the performances convince that there is a shared history here, and they deliver the present in a way that is informed by that. The end result is a delicately odd but nice film. It isn't hilarious, and it isn't smart, but it is well contained and nicely done throughout.
