Well, good news. I found a piece of pie with no blood on it. Anybody want a bite?
tenshi_ippikiookami6 December 2015
Well, well, well... This is more like it. There were not tons of humor in this episode, but who needs it when we are having so much fun?

Left behind "El brujo"'s house, the team stops in a bar for a little piece of cake, while Amanda and Ruby arrive to the house, the pyre of "El brujo" still blazing, in search of Ash.

The whole episode teases us with some action, and the cool bite we can chew at the beginning of the episode is only an appetizer of what will come later. And when it comes... well, let's say it will probably fulfill everyone's expectations. Not holding back. The director of this episode, Michael Hurst, had directed some episodes of Spartacus, so he already knew his way around fights and blood. It shows.

A whole lot of action, blood, deadites, plot development... well, I think a killer of killers deserves this kind of episodes. And no, it's not an overstatement.

Gory fun is on the menu

Warning: Spoilers
Plot; Ash, Kelly and Pablo stop at a restaurant and find there's no rest for the weary.

Taking place almost exclusively in a restaurant, this episode shows how well this series does a lot with a little. The overall story isn't moved forward a great deal, but characters come to the fore as police officer Amanda Fisher joins the gang in the battle against evil. Ash is his usual hilarious self, his highlight being a sleazy come on to a waitress in an effort to get out of paying his tab, and Kelly--who had been sort of on the margins to this point--goes medieval in a most deliciously gory fashion.

This series continues to be quite fun.

Warning: Spoilers
Following the obligatory recap of the previous episodes, 'The Killer of Killers' picks up as Amanda and Ruby arrive at the Brujos' homestead. After tussling with a burning skeleton, Ruby disappears, so Amanda continues on her own after Ash, Pablo, and Kelly. And speaking of our merry crew, they are now on their way to the cabin where everything began; thanks to his vision, Ash now knows what to do with the Necronomicon. A stop-off at a diner turns lively and very gory.

This episode is rather slow to start. In fact, it's actually on the boring side of things at first, and isn't all that funny. A fair amount of time is devoted to the awkwardness between Pablo and Kelly, as he informs her that when she was possessed she came on to him and smoked weed out of a gun. Fortunately, any fan of the "Evil Dead" franchise does eventually get rewarded with some splattery goodness and priceless dialogue. For one thing, Ash is short on cash to pay for the group meal, and thinks that he can buy off the waitress by making sweet, sweet love to her in the mens' room.

There's some wonderful "Force p.o.v." action as the Evil catches up to the diner and unleashes Hell, and various people on hand get either cut to ribbons or otherwise turned into Deadites. Amanda once again catches up to Ash, and her plans to apprehend him go completely haywire. Since she is again in an untenable position, she doesn't take long to mull over the possibility of joining Ash and the gang to fight Evil.

And the promise of the team becoming fuller and the promise of future kicking of Deadite ass is very tantalizing. The prospect of the next episode should definitely have fans smiling in anticipation.

Seven out of 10.

"What, you never saw a guy with a chainsaw hand before?"

No idea what they're doing with Lucy Lawless' character. One minute, she's gunning for Ash, the next she's dragging some Deadite into a funeral pyre. She's a mystery is what I'm sayin'. But getting to the important stuff, 'The Killer of Killers' is the most fun I've had since the premiere. The chemistry between the founding members of The Ghost Beaters (I hope they're still calling it that) is just right, Ash lays on the depravity to get out of a meal check, and there's a fight scene that cranks up the gore to delightful levels.

Episodes like this one are what make this show such a riot.

An improvement on the last few episodes.
BA_Harrison27 January 2019
Episode six of Ash vs Evil Dead, The Killer of Killers, starts off in terrible style with one of the worst special effects of the series, a really crap CGI skeleton that attacks Ruby (Lucy Lawless), pulling her into a fire.

It doesn't bode well, and for a while it looks like director Michael Hurst is going to be unable to pull the series out of its current slump. Then, just as I was about to give up hope, Hurst delivers a slam-bang action scene in a diner that is a sure-fire crowd pleaser, and at last it looks like we're back on track: the blood flies once again and the witty dialogue returns ("I know they say waitresses never get big tips, but that's all about to change").

The super gory ending includes a young boy mangled in a ceiling fan, the evisceration of a deadite, and a shotgun blast to the head. All of this bloody mayhem lifts The Killer of Killers from a mediocre 5/10 to a much more satisfying 7.5 (rounded up to 8 for IMDb).

Ash vs Dodgy Diner
The-Social-Introvert22 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The team stops for a bite at a diner. A little while later, their former boss, now hideous deadite, decides to join them. And of course the hot waitresses become deadites too.

There's a lot of chaos, blood and gruesome killing in this one. The entire episode mainly consists of the trio fending off a number of deadites in gruesome fashion. There's one particular stand out scene where an innocent bot, who was on the toilet moments before, gets flung by a deadite onto a fan and is chopped up. A rare ultra- serious moment for this series, that was. Even Ash was shown to be saddened by it.

Speaking of sad Ash, through dialogue we learn in this episode that he's grown to care for his companions, and that puts him in an uneasy position – Ash is aware that everyone he has cared for has been taken out by the evil dead, and he lets the other two know this.

I have to say though, the poor CGI is very distracting. I know the series has a trashy B movie feel to it but the makers are proud of the amount of practical effects they tell us they use and yet we are given some horrible digital effects shots that are fast becoming boring.

Overall this is another just above so-so filler episode

Pile of Corpses

Warning: Spoilers
'The Killer of Killers' is an entertaining mixed-bag of an episode. It was neat seeing a skeleton deadite again, although the CGI lacks the charm that Army of Darkness's stop-motion/puppet skeletons had. Ruby's sudden exit in the opening is also rather abrupt and strange. There is some solid laughs from Ash, particularly in regards to him being afraid of the others dying at the cabin. Yet, the humour does get a little too goofy at times, having an abundance of one-liner puns that are just groan-worthy ("Let's dine and dash!"). Amanda liking Ash joining the team is also a little rushed. The insane violence and deaths when the Demons attack the diner is great fun though. So, yeah, there's some great stuff and some not so great stuff.

Nothing amazing
Leofwine_draca24 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Another fairly average episode. There's a movement in the plot here but what transpires is quite ordinary and doesn't have the wacky vibe of the earlier stories. Watchable enough with some good incidental bits, but nothing amazing.

Awful!
port-6892210 December 2015
This series is nothing like Evil Dead 1 or 2, and barely has any semblance to Army of Darkness. The acting, casting choices, and lines are horrific; the CGI is crude, and the plot-lines are utter nonsense.

The writers should have kept with Evil Dead 2's style of humor, and tone, with a *pinch* of Army of Darkness thrown in. Instead, they said, "let's take Army of Darkness and make it 10 times stupider in every possible way! Adds to the charm, bro! Pass the weed..."

The typical fanboy's response to such criticism is basically to say that all of the above *somehow* makes this show great. Ludicrous! And do you know why I know they're full of it? Because if this show had been done better, it would appeal to more than the fanboys; this show would be talked about and lauded as much as Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, etc. And, and.. it could have still been "campy". The writers just weren't good enough to pull it off; or, perhaps they they just didn't have to, given their target audience's inability to discern the difference.
