Cool I guess

A very brief and neat watch. I wasn't sure what to get out of it, the love story doesn't feel convincing enough so the core message of the movie felt pretentious. Cool atmosphere though, you can clearly see the Wes Anderson influence in it.

The impossibility of love?

"Bienenjunge & Blumenmädchen" is a German 10-minute live action short film from 2015 written and directed by Clemens Roth and I found this one through the profile of quickly rising young German actress Elisa Schlott and decided to watch it for her. Her male counterpart is actor Florian Prokop, maybe known to some for his performance in Hotel Anubis. Now as for this one here, the two play a bee boy and a flower girl you can say and they are falling in love. Until that moment, it is a decent, but not great film, but then everyday life catches up to them, work life for him and it eventually destroys their togetherness. But it all felt so quick, so rushed and the director really should have taken some more time there because what is eventually sold us as a story of true love did not feel like that as a consequence and when we see them jump into the water, there was neither the connection between them nor a connection between them and us that made us feel in a way sorry or anything. They never felt like an unseparable couple to me, so it sure felt a bit strange the way the film ended. Also the aspects about her connection with flowers and his with bees did not feel enough quality-wise, also quantity-wise, to really sell me here on the film's title. Using colors black and yellow frequently alone is not enough. Overall, not a horrible movie, but a disappointing one nonetheless that also felt a bit pretentious at times I cannot deny it. The narrator may have had to do with that, did not like either very much. Overall, a thumbs-down. Watch something else instead and I genuinely wonder how this film really managed to score some awards recognition in the US.
