Great experience with this movie!
novoselac2 January 2014
I just watched this short movie on YouTube with my brother, and it motivated me to leave the review. We both have a different opinion of what happened to the writer.

I won't reveal much, but the main character is a bestselling author, struggling to find an inspiration for his new book. He backed off to a cold mountain, and one night after too much alcohol, strange things began to happen.

This movie gave me one really spooky experience! First, music is just AMAZING, it will really give you chills and build tension. Director paid much attention to the ambiance where the scene was shooting, and there are so many details that catch the eye. Acting is also high level. One more thing worth mentioning are CGI effects. CGI in this kind of low-budget movies knows to be a problem, but not here. Everything looks very convincing.

I look forward to seeing more work from this young and promising director. I give it a 9/10 !

Only one good moment

Warning: Spoilers
"The Visitor" is a Swiss 4-minute live action short film from 4 years ago. The writer and director is Robert Kouba and he was 19 or 20 when he made this one. His father once again plays the only character we see in here. Don't worry about subtitles as there is no dialogue in here. It is a little supernatural horror movie, but sadly it is not such a great watch. The only moment I liked was when the man opens the door to see what is going on. A bit on the scary side as I personally like invisible danger in horror films, but not enough to make up for the boredom before and the sub-par ending (shot). As a whole, I do not recommend the watch and this one here does not get me on the Kouba bandwagon. But still, taking his age into account, it is not a bad achievement, but he certainly still needs to get better in the future, if he wants to have a long career in the industry.

Haunting Film
geraldyelverton3 August 2015
As I write this review I continue to peer back over my shoulder in fear. This is a result of the film I just sat through. The Visitor, by filmmaker Robert Kouba is a thrilling tale about an author with writer's block who is visited by "something".

Upon, reading that short synopsis one would make parallels to the Johnny Depp film, The Secret Window. That is where the comparisons end. The Visitor is pure in suspense without witnessing the actual "haunt". Silent without dialogue the film is reliant more on score than "jump scares".

A film student would take note of Kouba's use of lighting as well as score. The main actor is very talented and was previously scene in another Kouba project.

I definitely recommend this film. Bravo Kouba.

Mysterious...

Warning: Spoilers
It is not easy to fully understand the significance of this short film to the first run, in fact, I happened to watch it several times to capture every detail. It's like the protagonist, a writer struggling with the writing of his book, was sucked into a parallel reality dominated by his fears, by mysterious noises and a dark presence, a visitor. Maybe it's alcohol, that he drinks to overcome his writer's block, maybe it's anxiety for the end of the book, maybe it's an hallucination, or is just reality. This we will never know, we can only imagine. Robert Kouba comes back with another exciting and intriguing short film, if you're fan of the horror/thriller genre you cannot miss it!
