In a very strange way, I am kind of hoping this show doesn't find itself going on forever and ever. Maybe 3-4 seasons tops with April dying in the end. Not because I hate April, nor want to see her friends or family suffer, but just because I like the idea of her having it all and then it being over. Is that twisted? I mean, granted if April was to live, and go into remission, that would make her a rare survivor of cancer in media, but I just don't feel like a feel good ending would be best. If just because you can see how her having cancer is changing things for people. Also, arguably, ABC Family can drag a show past its prime like Pretty Little Liars, and maybe even Twisted. And I'd rather this end while it was still good then them doing some, "oh April is better now" and then "the cancer is back!" and really dragging out the show and milking it.
Topic 1: It's a Small World – Sara & Brenna
From what It seems, Sara and Ben's relationship is doing quite well. In fact, Brenna catches the two fooling around on the couch with Sara's blouse undone. With this, Sara realizes it is time for the family to meet Ben properly. But before the dinner there is a complication: Sara's newest patient, Arianna, is Ben's ex-wife. With this, and a conversation with her mom, Sara feels the need to quickly, and rather dramatically, use the dinner as a chance to see where her and Ben's relationship is going. Thing is, between Sara's invasive questions, and then Brenna acting a fool, it seems Ben gets scared off.
He may not be the only one scared off by the dinner though. Kieran was also a guest for dinner. Though he being there wasn't so the family could meet him, instead it was to support Brenna during the awkward meal. But rather than just rely on Kieran for support, she instead decides to use Kieran as a means to scare off Ben, or at the very least make him out to be a square. Something which doesn't sit well with Kieran for not only does he support Sara finding happiness, but also he felt used. A problem since his possible pedophile self likes Brenna, which creates a need to know how old he is. For while he has a baby face, you know he is past 18 and Brenna is around 16 years old.
Topic 2: Too Good To Be True/ Avoiding Life – April & Beth
As we get to know April more, we learn she not only puts her career before her health, but also her fears before the potential of her relationships. Which isn't to say April's past relationships may not have made her understandably cautious. However, the way Beth puts it, when things get hard, or questionable, April is the type who will talk herself out of a relationship.
Like with Dominic. After a co-worker mentions Dominic may have player tendencies, April talks with Beth to try to figure out if Dominic is just playing a game with her heart and not truly investing in her. Which leads to her thinking that maybe she should just downgrade their relationship into being purely sexual. Which I don't blame April for because Dominic's aggressive ways, especially in the copy room, does make him out to be a horn dog. But when the moment comes to see if he is just in it for sex, he gets highly offended. Even to the point of kicking April out of his apartment.
But while this Dominic drama goes on, April is also working on a story about this juice maker named Gerald. This dude, who has end game cancer, makes carrot juice for a living and doesn't claim them as a miracle cure, but certainly sees them as something nice to make and for it brings people together. Especially cancer patients who are looking for any method to help their fight against cancer. And, in a way, with April only telling Beth she has cancer thus far, it makes interacting with Gerald therapeutic for, as he says, she needs to be around those who not only support her, but speak her language, i.e. have cancer as well. Something which she isn't for at first, but after Gerald dies she decides to go to a cancer meeting, and there she sees Leo in the group, implying that he has cancer. Something which would explain why he acts the way he does.
As for Beth, with her constantly challenging April to open up and try new things, April challenges her to give herself some stability. Beth goes from job to job, country to country, and yet settles for a crappy job and crappy ex-boyfriend. So as much as she tells April to give Dominic a go, and be adventurous outside of work, April gives her some advice on how to better her life in return, with a slight attitude by the way. Still, being the friends they are, both of them take the other's advice. Beth quits her job and seems like she may look for something permanent, and April decides to give Dominic another go, especially after Gerald dies. Thus leading to April healing her relationship with Dominic, getting herself some, and really solidifying their relationship. Though, at this point, Beth still remains the only significant person in April's life who knows about her cancer.
Things To Note
The current governor is caught in a sex scandal and seems like he may no longer be competition for Bruce. That is if Bruce's own indiscretions with his interns don't screw him over.
