Warnings no happy ending

Warning: Spoilers
Heartbreaking and beautiful! All the actors are impressive but the young woman who plays the heroine Gita takes it all. I hope she can make a name for herself in cinema and music. This is so refreshing from the cheesy, out of touch tv shows Netflix has been serving us lately. This show is about love, loss, friendship, traditions, family and betrayal. It is about the concept of "honor" and the weight it has on people's live and the devastating consequences. It is also about the rising xenophobia in Europe. This show describes everything that is going wrong in our world right now, "avec poésie".

A good society portay
andluca21 October 2023
It is a beautiful show. Deep dives into forbidden love emotions, Romani culture, the social gap in the Romani community and the racially hatred divided society in the former socialist-communist European block. Joining Eurpean Union and having access to marijuana did not change the hatred and the fear of challenging the status quo.. The show does create an empathetic perpective to the viewer. Well done to the producers!!

One criticism though, the script could have been better documented: associating Romani with Romania or originating from Romania is another broad biased or incorrect fact which not challenged, not sure why even brought in the script . Roma people are everywhere, speak same language in any country and they suffer the hatred and social injustice just as much in Romania.

Nice but boring.
costadaki22 September 2023
It's quiet a good story about a young Roma girl who moves from United Kingdom to Poland. It starts all good, but it tends to be so so boring. I mean it is a good story, they show us where she began, how free she was living her life before and how difficult it is for her to cope with the Roma style of living and rules. But it gets so long and the story slows down too quickly. At first, after two first episodes I put nine out of ten but as I moved on to the fourth and fifth etc episodes I couldn't see the time for it to get to the end. I love polish cinema and don't get me wrong, actors are good, picture is good, but the story gets too long.

Polish answer for Euphoria
bartek-1823313 September 2023
Wow! "Infamia" on Netflix is an absolute gem from the Polish cinematic landscape, and it's a series that deserves every ounce of praise! Diving deep into the intricate tapestry of identity, culture, and societal dynamics, this show is a masterclass in storytelling. Centered around Gita, a vibrant teenage Romani girl who relocates from the UK back to her roots in Poland, the narrative is both heartwarming and thought-provoking.

The performances are nothing short of spectacular! Jastrzebska, in particular, shines brightly, delivering a portrayal that is both authentic and deeply moving. Every scene she graces becomes magnetic, pulling the viewer into her world. Czerwinska and Lach complement the ensemble with their compelling roles, adding depth and dimension to the storyline.

What sets "Infamia" apart is its brilliant amalgamation of coming-of-age themes with deeper socio-political commentaries. It's not just a series; it's an experience! The show offers a rare and enlightening glimpse into Romani culture, breaking down stereotypes and presenting a culture rich in tradition, challenges, and resilience. The musical journeys, the generational conflicts, and the exploration of love and family values are depicted with such finesse that it's impossible not to get emotionally invested.

However, it's not just about the highs; "Infamia" doesn't shy away from addressing the prejudices and biases of the broader Polish society towards the Romani community. While there are moments where one wishes the series delved deeper into these issues, the gradual progression and expansion of this theme are commendable.

In conclusion, "Infamia" is a cinematic masterpiece that is both enlightening and entertaining. Its rich storyline, exceptional performances, and thought-provoking themes make it more than just a series - it's a journey that every viewer will cherish. If you're looking for a show that offers depth, emotion, and a fresh perspective, "Infamia" is a must-watch! Dive in and prepare to be mesmerized!

Excellent filmmaking and storytelling.

This is a fantastic script. The actors were superb, with Zofia Jastrzebska as the perfect Gita. Every scene in this series moved the story along to different takes than what would usually happen in other shows. Wonderful photography with some really interesting shots. Incredible music, especially all the rap songs. The last rap video was dope! The character depth was exceptional for any type of film or series. Everyone has their own perception of their life. The storytelling didn't throw stones at anyone or maybe everyone. There was nowhere to hide for any character. One of the best series to come along in a long time.

Love it!

This was my first time binge-watching a Netflix show, but I had to cut it short as I had to get up for work the next morning. There are just two more episodes left for me to finish. I absolutely adore the main character, the cinematography is exceptional, the soundtrack is on point (I've already started listening to it in my car), the characters are intriguing, and I find it fascinating to get a glimpse into the lives of these communities in my neighboring state. It feels like a relatable experience, growing up in similar panel flat neighborhoods. Yes, I'm loving the show and especially Zofia.

Moving masterpiece worth superb cinematography and incredible cast
alexandralarissasanders16 September 2023
In one word: WOW. What a show. Everything from the story and characters to the music and atmosphere are simply spectacular. This is the kind of quality that rarely comes along, and I hope it wins dozens of awards. The show is moving, gritty, poignant, and searing in its commentary on modern life for Roma communities. Zofia is breathtaking, and supported by a fantastic ensemble cast.

The cinematography is atmospheric, beautiful, and oftentimes magical. The writing is sharp, powerful, and moves the story along with intensity and heart. It doesn't shy away from the racism and brutality Roma people face daily, yet balances this heaviness with beautiful moments of connection and joy.

The actors are all fantastic. The music is touchingly haunting. I don't have enough words of praise to heap on this series. GO. WATCH IT. It's easily one of the top 3 things Netflix has put out this year. I literally signed up to IMDb just to be able to review it - it's that good.

Warning: Spoilers
This show upset me so much! Now it was interesting. It kept my attention, but it was just too much silly stuff. Like that boy died for no reason ,because of a dog are you serious. These people were like a dog with a bone they just will not let it go. I mean I get that lady got hurt, but it wasn't that serious to say Let's go kill somebody or let's keep looking for him. There was no authorities around ,they just let anything happen in this town? It was too many misunderstandings and nothing ever got resolved. That is what upset me. The daddy, he was getting on my last nerve he just was doing wrong things left and right.

Infamia the series of the year
scotthunt4724 September 2023
What an incredible show. Rarely do we get a series that achieves such balance between wonderful actors, incredible storytelling and phenomenal videography (I mean the lighting in this show alone!). Also throw in incredible sound and music. This series takes us on a journey that dives into the realm of the Romani and Polish people. This series is everything you could want and more - culture, conflict, rap, dogs, powerful matriarchs. We even get a choral version of the Barbie song! Absolutely gripping. No notes whatsoever. I hope people pick up on the show and get to experience it!

I watched it in the original Polish with English subtitles.

Cinematography, acting, script, and music = bombastic
writetoiza13 March 2024
Really loved this show. It is my favourite Polish series, hands down.

It had really excellent character development and script. The music was amazing, including the rap the lead actress sang. And the cinematography was mesmerizing, oozing with creativity.

I would highly recommend it to anyone, and to those that I have recommended it to, loved it as well. Even my only English speaking husband loved it and he tends to dislike foreign movies or series, finding them too slow.

If you do not care for subtitles, I've watched it in Polish with English subs, but also watched it dubbed. You lose a little bit in translation, but not enough to take away from the show.

Better turn a blind eye to it
paulavoytanovsk3 May 2024
It's very good if u don't take it too seriously. Romani culture changed, nowadays no one forces girls to get married. Poles aren't that racist but they wouldn't treat the gypsy girl so special in real life. No one would give an attention to her bad rap. Apart from the fact that the film is terribly exaggerated, I enjoyed it. To be honest i like it more than "Euphoria". 10 points for costumes and traditional music. The film frames are amazing too. It fits good into drama genre. I'm waiting for more with a hope next time polish cinema won't show characters in such a stereotypical way. And I won't have to listen to horrible rap anymore...

It is TEEN series. SKIP. The music and cliches ruined it for me.
ACA1315 September 2023
First episode was interesting them it turned into a TEEN series. I wouldn't have started watching if I have known. It is not about a Gypsy life but the usual teen show.

The music ruined it for me. I know it is about the protagonist wanted to be a rapper but there is no need for constant loud music, it would have been more balanced by using some gypsy music as well.

Full of stereotypes and cliches.

Some horrible scenes with Animal abuse and cruelty with no purpose for being educational or helping to bring awareness about Animal abuse.

I do not recommend.

I usually like Polish series but this is not one of them.

Well made but negative and stereotypical
joelokent-3004317 September 2023
I liked the performances and direction, but there is a moral void in this series. The story focuses on a gypsy community and its difficulties in Poland. It shows negative representations of every character, and stereotypes the Romany community. It is good that it explores issues of gambling, forced marriage, racism and violence. However the conclusions it draws are too negative and nihilstic. The main message at the end is deplorable, fame and friends are more important than family. Also this series glorifies drug use and loveless sex. Teenagers will probably like it for this, everyone should avoid.
