Decent but a mixture of issues.
babbittc4 September 2023
This series so far is decent but it's suffering from a few issues. Some with casting, some with directing.

Hera's character is unbelievable - mixed with poor acting and too much makeup, she's like a pretty girl stuffed in a Star Wars outfit with cute but out of place expressions. Conversely all of the villains here are fantastic, especially Shin (the Ukrainian actress). Just a fantastic expressive performance. Very believable.

The overall problem I've found with this series is pacing, Ahsoka's character suffers at times due to her vacillating between a lethargic smug sage to a top fighting Jedi. The directing is also suffering from music overload. Intense music being overlaid on battle scenes and light saber fights is actually smothering the flow of the scenes. If you notice the music more than you notice the action then you've probably got too much music.

All that being said, this is probably my second favorite series behind The Mandalorian. I'm still holding out hope for this one to get better though as the villains are exceptional.

To short
eoinageary30 August 2023
The episode firstly is good, there is some good content in here but I fear we have hit the usual Disney formula after the first 2 episodes finally strayed from it.

30 minutes is to short, why not make 5 hour long episodes that cut the filler and dragged out scenes and put together all the good stuff I'll never know.

We got in this episode IN MY OPINION, a chase scene that was too long, and a training scene that was also very slow, other than that not much push forward, I'm not asking for bang bang action every 2 seconds but a story with stakes is what's needed, there are no intense emotions with this show so far, 7/10.

Horribly short, but not much substance
jeff-holtorf5 September 2023
This isn't animation and if you're only giving us 8 episodes, each should be 1 hour in length! Space battles are nice, but there's not much substance there.

The start of the episode was slow, but picked up a little and gave us more details and story building.

There could have been a bit more detail provided outside the space battle. That time was wasted on what we have already seen in Star Wars for many years.

The story was very thin however and stretched out a bit, and could have given us more substance and less fluff. More story driven scenes that promote the character development and less lasers.

The ending is abrupt and felt awkward.

Long line of non-traditional Jedi
jameswyattranks30 August 2023
While it may have been a short episode, #Ahsoka continues to be a fascinating and exciting journey. Delivering with great action, good character progression and a promising storyline.

I love the space combat we got and that we got to see glimpses of Ahsoka's immature and impulsive side which will never fully go away no matter how much she has matured.

This is incredibly promising television for fans of Rebels and Star Wars in general, with some very rewarding scenes.

The best thing about this episode for me is that it continues to provide meaningful scenes for Sabine who I felt in Rebels was the least developed character. Whether it's regarding Ezra, her training, her past or her feelings it has managed to deliver every time.

Look forward to the next episode!

Perhaps not perfect, but thrilling to the true fans
borapirat30 August 2023
The Ahsoka show has had a promising start and so far, three very solid episodes. Though not perfect, even though some might disagree, this series so far had a beautiful score, great acting, and wonderful visuals. I understand that the audience who has not seen the animated series will not be as attached to this show as others who have, but I think we can all appreciate the story and the characters. The pacing is off at times, with episodes starting off slow then picking up the pace and action. After all the amazing reviews, I am slightly disappointed with this series so far (which I'm sure will change after the second season) but the little things like seeing the Ghost, the purrgils, the mentions of Ezra and Thrawn definitely excites the Rebels fan inside me. This episode gave us a good amount of character development, action, and story continuation which is why I rate it an 8.5/10. I have full trust in Dave and that this show will be something truly incredible as it gets to the end. And I must say, as much as I have enjoyed this series so far something BIG needs to happen soon.

Attention to detail, please!
hi-8713630 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
OK, first of all I don't mind the classic simplified and uncomplicated scenes within the Star Wars franchise. But it kills me when simple attention to detail is overlooked.

The scene where Ahsoka leaves the plane to walk outside and take on the fighters is ridiculous. Within 5 seconds she had donned a magnificent looking full bodied space suit complete with magnetic boots and perfectly fitting moulds for her tentacles. And no, this was no cut-scene - as the enemies had already spotted the ship ahead and were about to take them out. I mean come on. Director Steph Green, what on earth is this rubbish? You're not the only one who has made these blatant mistakes of continuity and attention to detail but (as a director myself), I'd be embarrassed to put my name to this rubbish. At most it should have been a slick grab of a micro mask and stomp into some space boots while flying out a door in one swift move that justified the 5 seconds or so she had to spare. (But her body would be exposed to the atmospheric elements I hear you say)... she is an alien for christ sake, this is an easier concept to bend the rules on.

These spin off series are decent entertainment, but these childish scenes really do my head in. Please please, someone take control and fix this up in future. No more over the top silliness with the attention to detail that is designed for children.

Keeps you intrigued!
and_mikkelsen30 August 2023
This episode continues the story from the previous episodes, by slowly revealing pieces of information!

This show very much is a slow burn so far with only small events taking place so far qnd nothing major! This however is neccesary as we are only at the beginning and we can not have pay-off without build-up!

I feel like Dave is passionate about this show qnd its characters as he spends time with these different interactions that builds upon the relationship the characters have for each other! A very welcome addition as it is a continuation of rebels, and people not familiar with the show will have time to get to know the characters!

It feels like Dave has the story figuered out as we slowly, but surely, moves toward something! I enjoyed the action as well! Great shift between creative set pieces, to keep the viewer engaged!

Also Marrok might be the coolest new addition!

Part Three: Do A Barrel Roll
milesrdavis30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I thought Rosario Dawson did a great job as Ahsoka in The Mandalorian, so I'm going on record as saying the writing is what's not doin it for me.

The first third of the episode is a really drawn out and boring. A training schpiel that's trying to harken back to Luke and Ben on the Falcon but is not good.

The next third is slightly less drawn out, but also boring with a good hit of politics thrown in (both in-show and out-of-show) because that's what the people are here for, right?

The last third plays out like a level of Starfox with an intermission for potentially awesome space-Jedi stuff that landed flatter than the Marry Poppins bit of Last Jedi. Kept expecting a rabbit to start shouting things like "Use the boost to get through!" interspersed with the wailings of a vaguely amphibian sort of creature that I'm now remembering wearing a child's ball cap?

This show is not improving. Also so far all men are either evil, corrupt, or incompetent. Show me one that isn't, I say wait for the next episode.

Some will criticise
kajc1030 August 2023
There is a major revelation that some fans will not like, but do the research, this is what George Lucas himself really thinks, and this time not just another stupid Disney idea.

Otherwise, this episode was shorter, kinda had a filler feeling, but the story had to be connected so I understand. I think the next one will hit. Rebels fans are treated again with some nice referneces and cameo characters, just as in previous episodes, hope this keeps up:)

I'm very satisfied with the show so far, not just because i'm a huge CW&Rebels fan, and this show is basically Rebels season 5, but because it really has star wars feeling and has the prequels' style.

Noticing that Disney+ feeling now
bishopnd30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So wanna preface this by saying I am 27 and been a Star Wars fan since I was 4. I enjoy basically everything Star Wars, even the children shows (I don't mean Rebels or Clone Wars) and not a very picky viewer.

But I'm not sure what it is exactly, but so many shows these days, in particular Disney+ shows, give me this disjointed negative feeling. I think part of it is due to them basically being stretched out movies not thought out the best for typical TV.

One of the only shows I haven't felt that in was Andor. But Mando season three, Kenobi, and Boba Fett I had this same bad feeling. Episodes and pacing feel un-thought out(?), and not meant for this viewing platform.

Characters aren't acting fully like themselves and this episode showed Hera not acting like Hera at all in my opinion. She wouldn't have submitted to the Republic ruling the way she did. Thrawn messed up her life, hurt her friends, family. Like why did she act this way?

Ahsoka herself, the acting comes off a bit... off? She doesn't seem like herself, I know times passed and maybe I'll change my mind on if, but from her facial expressions to how she treats Sabine, it doesn't feel quite like Ahsoka, tho this episode was a slight improvement in that regard.

I enjoy the CGI, set design and the villains, and still enjoy the lead protagonist's, but I think a lot of that might be me still knowing the old versions of the characters.

I think it comes down to it being a Disney+ live action mini series. The animated shows felt better because there was world building, character building, appropriate amount of time spent on the plot and gave you nice breaks (proper filler episodes) and knew it's grounds and where it stood.

I still recommend this show to Star Wars fans like myself but it might be hard for non fans of the old shows to come into this.

Amazing
thomasmatthew30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ahsoka episode 3 was amazing, so many callbacks to Rebels, Clone Wars and Episode 5, amazing acting, dogfights and OMG the Soundtrack was phenomenal after this episode I don't wanna hear anymore "Ahsoka has no emotion" can't wait for next week, DAVE FILONI is cooking up a storm, the world building is amazing, the New Republic is literally just killing themselves too, like c'mon take this possible threat seriously man, glad to see Mon Mothma again and finally we see Hera's son Jacen and he's just hanging around with War Criminal Chopper. OMG the Purrgil just looks amazing, like who wouldn't love the world building in this and the storytelling just has Dave written all over it, like this is his baby, he's gonna do what he's gonna do and that is COOK.

The reviews?
cybersavior-038116 September 2023
I think I'm more confused at the rating of the show, than the show itself.

Anything that's rating over an 8, is clearly bought and paid for by Disney. This show does not YET reach an 8.... I hope it can get there. Realistically, I think its between a 6-7 (at best).

I think for all the hype this has had, it's been rather slow and predictable. Paying homage to Star Wars is one thing, but lifting lines, and scenes from it, felt less like a tribute and more like a struggle for ideas.

To leave the review on a good note, visually the show looks pretty good. But fans will always take a good story over great visuals. I hope in the end the larger story will bring it all back together.

The trend of beautiful but stupid continues
mfeierskov30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really don't understand why it's seemingly so hard to make things exciting without making them stupid.

General Syndulla can't get permission to send even a single ship to investigate the possible return of Thrawn. That's after an inquisitor escaped with a hyperdrive engine larger than anything currently in use. But I suppose they just built it for fun. I guess a general doesn't have the authority to command anything at all on her own and all the council members are apparently morons.

Ahsoka and her companions reach the hyperspace ring where for some reason they have to keep the ship steady for scans to work, but they have to fly completely erratically for Sabine to hit anything with her guns.

The turbolasers fire flack cannon ammo for some reason, that detonate at the exact range of the ship they are firing at, but can't hit anything dispute the ship basically flying directly at them. Oh, and they only have guns on one side of the hyperspace ring, because as we all know, space isn't 3D and people only attack from one direction.

Ahsokas ship is drifting in space without power while three fighters make attack runs at it, but for some reason they all decide to fire at her lightsabers instead of just destroying the stationary ship.

I find myself shaking my head and laughing in disbelief several times per episode, and it's annoying me to no end, that they can't seem to put mildly competent people in charge of the Star Wars franchise.

The Stargate vibe really rocks!
marianciobanuz30 August 2023
I really loved this episode, but if this show would have been made back in the late 90's, would have been at least about 50 minutes long, would have been a complex episode, with a mature story, just like the Prometheus episodes from Stargate SG-1, Andromeda or the last seasons of Star Trek Deep Space Nine and this series hould have been made from 22 episodes per season. I like this show, but it is the time for the creators of this series to treat us like some adult persons, because this cartoon like dumb short style, which was great in the Mandalorian, because it practically returned Star Wars to the simple and superb original style of the first trilogy, it doesn't work anymore, we need suspense, we need mystery, we need mature heroes and a mature story, made for grown ups.

Mixed Thoughts...
SHU_Movies30 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a mixed bag, and how good it was seemed to change from scene to scene. One minute, it was a fun space battle reminiscent of those in the Original Trilogy, and the next, Ahsoka is standing on the hull of the ship deflecting fire that surely should've breached the aforementioned hull.

Overall, this episode probably deserves a 6.5/10 rating. That seems fair, since some scenes were pretty great, and others kind of sucked. It was mildly entertaining, but could've been done in fifteen minutes, and should've been combined with the contents of the next episode. I feel as though that would've been a much better way to do it.

It's good and loyal to the series, be patient
VikStinson30 August 2023
Part three felt like a belated introduction on characters such as Mon Montha, Heda's son and the rest of the senate, which creates quite a large cast of villians and allies that had little to none significant action so far. Maybe this will lead to more drama and deaths later on. Adding the training for Sabine makes this episode an obvious personal development filler. Still it is hopeful that a filler contains both well executed references to older movies and series, and has a quite memorable surprise ending with great cinematics.

Adding the end-music makes this the series closest to the Mandalorian, but it is near impossible to live up to their main characters. Perhaps some non-introduced ones will do so.

'who is the audience here?'
imizrahi200215 November 2023
Reads one of the review titles...well...that seems obvious...the under sixteen year old, red bull crowd...the whiners. It was hard to believe that it was, review after review, negative...most ratings under 5.

Yes. It's thirty minutes long. As if quantity has anything to do with quality?

It seems as if a lot of the young reviewers are only here to show us how clever they think THEY are...and little to do with what's actually happening in the program...'something to clip your toenails to'(congratulations. You used the correct 'your'. A foot up from many reviewers). 'the trend of beautiful but stupid continues'...i guess i'm the stupid one for not understanding what that's supposed to imply.

But...at first i wasn't sure i was going to enjoy this show...there's been many star wars 'offshoots' i've tried to watch but...they just weren't for me... but THIS show feels the most to me like the original movies...which had some of the same pacing as this episode...really, as all of the series so far...and yes. Some of it IS repetitive...it IS, though, an extension of the original story. So how one might think it should be different from 'the basics' is beyond me...it's not 'something else'. It's, as i said, an extension of star wars...and it's doing pretty well doing that in a LOT of ways in this series... the whiners don't bother me all that much...they're hard to take seriously. I've come to expect it since anyone of any age can write a review...i don't expect them to be able to get beyond their own personal, teenage frustrations to give an objective review.

Recycled short action episode
milandjurdjevic7730 August 2023
Packed with action, yet surprisingly unengaging. It's perplexing how originality seems lacking, resorting to rehashed and predictable drama, dated fighter designs (propeler needed for WWII), and recycled music from the OT. The predictability is overwhelming. Moreover, Wonder Woman's agenda feels monotonous, not inherently problematic, but blatant enough. The music is impeccably crafted but lacks depth - a soulless perfection. Unlike "Andor," where music carries essence. Slightly better experience in the initial two episodes.

Overall not bad, far better than three ST but not perfect as Andor...

A fun, past-paced (albeit too short) episode that actually slightly surpasses its predecessors.
ahsokafan2331 August 2023
When the double-episode premiere of this newest addition to the Star Wars cosmos dropped, I was amongst those who felt the show focused too much of its emotional core on Sabine Wren, leaving its lead character to feel much more impassive than she has ever previously been. However, with this episode, I was very pleased to see Ahsoka finally allowed to be much more expressive, truly cementing Rosario Dawson's interpretation of the character as a matured, yet nevertheless spirited Ahsoka.

And while the fleeting runtime of this episode is unfortunate, it somewhat makes up for it by delivering one major exhilarating sequence and close to sturdy pacing throughout.

In my opinion, this episode was actually even a slight improvement on the premiere, correcting several of the flaws of the first two episodes, while still continuously retaining a gripping soundtrack, a gratifying old-school cinematic feel, and a grounded, ambitious story that seems headed in a fantastic direction, promising an excellent batch of upcoming episode.

Nothing new
dmorales-5151830 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is so similar to Star wars episode 4 A New Hope, the jedi's instruction, the use of the force with a helmet, etc. Then when they came out of hyperspace they are attacked by some space ships and they have to fight just like Luke and Han Solo did.

What's going on here? I am so tired of the lack of imagination of the writers. There are hundreds of books now call "legends" that have so many concepts and adventure, really guys you don't have nothing new to show?

The first episode is like a the first Indiana Jones, then they discovered a map just like the Luke's new home maps and now they show us a copy of episode 4th?

The show is beautiful, the cgi good... But please please!!! Tells us a new and good story!!

As a Star Wars fan, this show always leave me wanting more
mmcardoso-1402230 August 2023
I'm not gonna lie, I was initially worried when I saw this would be a 37 minutes episode, worried about the pacing and everything feeling too rushed, glad it wasn't the case. The action and the tension put me on the edge of my seat the entire episode, one scene in specific (no spoilers) left me speechless, something I wasn't expecting to see in live-action Star Wars, but I'm glad it was there. In this episode the main characters Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren were less stoic, which is good, their scenes together were good, but for me, the highlights were Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla which finally convinced me as the Rebels character in this episode because of her portrayal and David Tennant as the droid Huyang who keeps working as the fun and good comic relief of the show. I think it was the best episode directed by Steph Green in the Star Wars universe, she really has talent for this. Dave Filoni keeps showing that he learned from the best (George Lucas). Overall great episode, can't wait for next week.

Short episode that entertains in moments
snoozejonc30 August 2023
Ahsoka, Sabine, and Huyang continue their mission to find Thrawn.

This episode starts with some exchanges of dialogue that lay the foundations for upcoming plot and provide the obligatory exposition for those of us who have not seen Rebels. These moments serve a purpose but are not particularly engaging for me.

I like the training scenes as, whilst familiar, they hold true to traditional themes of Star Wars characters striving to fulfil untapped potential. They are very well filmed and choreographed.

The episode comes to life during the action sequences, that are quite thrilling and feel very Star Wars. Characters like Ahsoka and Sabine are used well and the spectacle as you would expect is very well done.

For me the actors are all solid in their roles, but have not been challenged with much outside of looking the part and conveying the plot to the audience.

As in the previous episode the visuals are generally excellent thanks to the cinematography, editing and art design.

For me it's a 6.5/10, but I round upwards.

Lots of copied scenes and some awful new ones
towerlotse31 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I guess this is by intention, but so many of the scenes of especially this episode were taken, let's nicely say: inspired by scenes from Episode4 a new hope. It's okay if you do this for some fan service or nostalgia, but it lacks creativity. It seems like an episode written and directed by AI.

Even shots and framing were taken from Episode4 like the scene where the millenium falcon escapes from the death star with tie fighters on it's tail.

But two things really disturbed me: when Sabine is being trained by Ahsoka and get's the helmet on and sais I CAN'T SEE HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FIGHT I thought, since she knows what Jedi are capable of doing and has been undergoing Jedi training already, why it something new for her, that Jedi use their senses?! As i said, i guess they were trying to remind you of a new hope, but here it just did not make any sense

And the most awful scene was when Ahsoka went into zero-g on their disabled ship. Like if she could just make gravity... if so, why not explain this?

Next, why do the villains not just blast the disabled ship into a thousand pieces? One single proton torpedo or a few blaser shots and it's gone.

For sure this was an action packed scene but it was so unlogic

I do like the actors, costumes, set design and the looks, but most important of all is story and this is what this series lacks most.

Star Wars as we know it, but made for today + Sabine great on screen
danklear-621-13404630 August 2023
Watched this with my son (what better way to enjoy Star Wars?), and he was on the edge of his seat the entire time. The Jedi training scenes resonated deeply with him, and I saw him go through so many of the same feelings I had when I watched A New Hope on VHS as a kid. I appreciate this approach to Star Wars so much and it's awesome to have a show like this to look forward to each week.

My son pointed out that while Sabine "looks" less like her Rebels animated character than the others who were adapted from that show to live action here, she by far is the closest to the character in terms of her spirit or energy. The scene in this episode with the cup was a perfect embodiment of this, the acting was just so good.
