This is not good at all
krakanova7 March 2019
3/10 The Aztec Box is about amateur filmmakers in school, making a reality television show about themselves (maybe; they do not say and it does not matter). Ironic is that the film looks amateur and is probably a student film final project, full of what nobody likes about found footage films.

The crew unearths an ancient Aztec demon or whatever.

Bad acting. Pulling-out-of-the-skid-marked-college-dude's-plaid-boxers inspired story. Cliched found footage: Text prologue and epilogue. video turbulence with the supernatural; kitchen poltergeist activity caught on camera(!); instant cgi dilated pupils; and more.

Lots of better found footage films that this, but fewer worse.

Surprisingly Enjoyable
Shelpa1 July 2015
I had been waiting a while to see this and managed to get a copy. I also read the other reviews and they were obviously written by people associated with the movie so I wasn't expecting too much.

Well surprise, surprise! It was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it and it kept me watching so no complaints.

Another reviewer called Blair Witch and Paranormal Activity 'junk' but I disagree. I watch a LOT of found footage and those 2 movies are, in my opinion, examples of FF done well. This movie doesn't achieve those heights but it should be a definite watch for any FF fan.

The good - Good story, acting and camera work. Also built tension really well and the story was closed out nicely.

The not-so-good - It never really felt like it released that build up of tension. It got to the level it wanted but instead of using that tension it kind of just slowly ran its course, not bad just a bit disappointing. Some of the actions of the characters wasn't truly believable sometimes. Example: Girl gets sick and starts seizing with blood coming out of her mouth, ears and nose. When she stops seizing they just put her to bed and tell the arriving paramedics that its nothing, shes resting now and they can go.

With all that said, I will definitely be keeping and eye on this writer and director. This movie had potential to be great and I will be interested to see what can be done with a bigger budget.

Finally, a quality found footage film!

Was recently at my friend's house, and he had a DVD of this film. Apparently, it's a low budget indy that went straight to DVD. He was actually raving about this film, so we decided to check it out.

I've seen a lot of found footage films, but this one is different. It's not just mindless camera shaking, this film actually has a story and a plot. There is four students, and they dig up this thing out of the ground that is some kind of an old Aztec relic. I don't want to give the film away, but it gets pretty exciting after that thing is dug up.

It has a good story, good acting and, overall, keeps you entertained for the 90 or so minutes that it runs. RECOMMENDED!
