This is one of those rare reviews I do as this is one of those decent/middle of the road episodes that are watchable; I do like the premise on N'damas return as that was a piece of unfinished business on Phantom's end of things, but it could have been better.

I have a few of problems, from the final things both Phantom and Jetta say in the final minutes make no sense as its two philosophies contradicting each other. Jetta, I feel was being extremely naïve in parts of this episode, I know that her naivety is kind of her Achilles heel but on this high of a scale really. But also, the fact we didn't get to see a one on one final battle between both Phantom and which was a disappointment, it felt like the episode was building up to it but never paid off.

I like we get a little depth on Kurt/N'damas in a way this episode was more his. He's completely unlikable, this is a person that is simply in it for himself. From Jetta saving his life mainly because he was of family blood and Kurt the blowhole says, "So, you had no choice." That comment shows how meaningless the family name really is to him and how it's just a free pass when needed. When it comes matters of that I always think "saved your live once, that doesn't mean they'll be a second time." To me rescue/heroism isn't a free pass, nor must ever be taken for granted because there are no guarantees or promises ever.

There is another moment when he saves Jetta's life but that's only because he still needs her alive for his end goals, so this guy is a user. We see as he is helping in the rescue effort, he is also taking the opportunity to regain his power and once again go on his road to ruin.

The theme of the episode is about what family really is. Kurt/N'damas maybe a relative of The Phantom's linage and they raised and guided him throughout most of his life but he's also an individual which makes him responsible for his own choices. And when it comes to making the choice of walking either the path of light or darkness, you must live and die by whatever path your choice to take.

Yes, he may have been strong enough to receive the title of being The Phantom, but he was unworthy because he wanted to use it for his own selfish petty gains, dishonoring everything the title of The Phantom was about.

Jetta and Kit/The Phantom are family because both love and care for one another which is how they were both truly strong and survived for so long. The Defenders are also family as they are the extended portion of it as they have done the same for them and each other. That is another major difference between them. Jetta and Kit/The Phantom have not just each other but people that deeply care about them in their lives. While Kurt/N'damas has no one but himself and his own power which we know loves no one back.

Rating: 2 and a half stars.
