A Masterpiece of a show but not a fan of the last episode/ending
wmcq-2594721 December 2021
In my top 3 shows of all time for sure but i didnt like the ending, all felt rushed and went hollywood style away from the realisim that made the show so epic. Like most shows endings are a disappointment Gomorrah was no different, but a classic TV show that is no doubt.

Finale that it deserved.
singhravi-0098019 December 2021
The only conclusion to end Gomorra. It could've been different but that doesn't mean the ending we got was not Good. The quality of the series has definitely decreased over seasons but it was still a good season.

It had to be this way
zahir-8946720 December 2021
No surprises for the shows finale. A worthy and satisfying end to one of my all time favourite shows. In comparison to the lofty heights of the previous seasons I would have to admit that the quality has dropped slightly for season 5 but it has still been a gripping, tense and emotional ride. Così a lunga Gomorra!!

Masterpiece from start to finish

Haven't felt this numb at the end of a series for years . Poetic finish to a wonderfully crafted show . The end I think was satisfactory if not shocking .

Appropriate ending for a gripping series
dconsolini27 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is as much redemption as these 2 mesmerising anti-heroes could ever get. I hope now both these terrific actors will turn to lighter material, but they did themselves proud here. Sure, it became a very violent soap opera since Ciro turned out to be alive 2 seasons ago, but I wish more shows would take as many creative chances.

Jumped the shark, dumb, predictable and disappointing
sumtim3s00n20 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The whole season already started with one of the most illogical and stupid forced drama seen on television.

The guy basically sacrifices himself for his best friend and for a thank you his "friend" decides to make him suffer for the rest of his life for "abandoning" him alone.

That was the dumbest rationalization ive probabily ever seen. Instead of being overjoyed and mildly annoyed for not contacting him (after all, the guy sacrificed himself and Gen owns him a life, plus Ciro can decide himself whether he wishes to return or not, Gen should respect that esp. Since he saved him.) he treats him like the worst enemy.

Silly shallow writers trying to be witty saying those we love most can hurt us worst in the dumbest way possible.

And then the season ends with the most predictable and overdrawn and stupid meandering illogical story of them hating eachother and then"buddying up" again at the end. And of course, since theyre half bad guys the have to die, together. And are attacked at just the right time for it to be most melodramatic... not the kid or mommy though, of course.

So much cheese and cringe in the same place has not been seen since Real housewife of wtfTF.

Horrible horrible ending (season) for an otherwise quality show.

absolute masterpiece
massimocomitato20 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film product is impressive.

The last episode is perfection.

I found the fact that everyone died (absolutely everyone!) beautiful as a testimony to the fact that to lead this life there is no alternative to death.

I was very struck by the last sentence of Genny to Azzurra: "the only person I have to protect you from is ME".

"I have to protect you from".

A sentence that contains the meaning of the whole series.

A man who made one mistake after another, with everyone, including his own family. And in the end he realizes that the only thing he can do is DIE for his family, since he hasn't been able to live it.

A repentance that has come too late, a redemption (at least towards one's family) that cannot find a solution, because this is the only way to end up living this life: with feelings of guilt towards everyone and without the possibility of remedying the evil that has been done to all!

Perfection.

The ending fit the narrative
BirdmanT71 March 2022
I caught this series recently in Jan 2022 on HBO-max and I was hooked from the 3rd episode.

There are a lot of people disappointed in the last episode, but I wonder if they really have been paying attention at all?

Every major or minor character on this show died, that was the entire theme or the message of this show about that criminal world. Ciro and Genno were no different than anyone else, as "lazy" predictable writing or cliche it may seem to a lot of the viewers, but the ending actually fit the narrative of the show. Ciro and Genno were destined to die, because there are no winners in that world, everyone who took a life, lost a life and everyone was expendable.

I have never ever liked any shows about the Mafia or criminals, I was never fan of "Sopranos", I thought it was very overrated garbage. I did like the "Wire" and there were similarities to this show. But "Gomorrah" was only focused in one world, it was much darker than any American gangster show, not that it had even the same level of violence, but the plot was more like you are watching a Shakespeare play at times, with so many unpredictable twists and betrayals , the cruelty of its characters was what made it so dark.

This show had the most profound affect on me emotionally almost at the end of each episode. I hated these characters; but I liked them at the same time?. I feel sad this show has ended and I feel a void because I honestly don't feel anything can top this for a long time, this is what you call a masterpiece.

For people who love the opera
bshemkar2 April 2023
The ending was just like in Italian opera tragedies.

As an opera fan, I loved it, despite the cliché.

The series is excellent - one of the best I have ever seen. So realistic, full of tension, surprises, ruthlessness, action, plots and great and charismatic characters.

The last season was not as good as the previous ones. It was full of action, twists and killings, but it was less realistic, with many things happening "too conveniently", with some stupid decisions by characters who are supposed to know better. It really felt that they were aiming to finish the story and to close many character story arcs.

Still, I loved this series and I will miss it.

GREAT ENDING!!!!!
horrorules21 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A perfect ending for a perfect series, the idea of killing the two main characters, two myths, two legends, at the hands of simple hitmen was a really good and intelligent choice, the message is clear: "if you live that life you can ending alone like this, it doesn't matter whether you are, the son of a king or a feared character like the immortal, you will die alone on a dirty and squalid beach, killed by a nobody like you "

One of the most beautiful series ever made closes , and for all those who criticize the ending I just say "get mad as garbage as the Walking Dead, CSI and other rubbish, those are the series for you"

Why are you gae
perexodas24 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Gomorrah for me was an embodiment of perfect show. The acting, the story, the camera work, music, the dialogues (or sometimes - a lack of), even things like wardrobe, locations and interiors - everything is stunning. Dont blink through it or youll regret it Though. Though. The climax episode was really dissapointing. Push-pull romance between Ciro and Genny got really out of hand. This subplot, - in contrast to every other storyline in this universe, is entirely not believable. Why would a cold blooded killer, driven mostly by psychophatic thirst for power, all of a sudden be entangled in his feelings so much? And then go to these great lenghts to accomplish... What exactly? The ending even supposes the viewer should emphatise with Gennaro. No. I want that POS be finally dead, let the widow get the revenge she deserves, end of story. Thank you. This was a good ride. But no. The drama just keeps dragging on and on, with all the hollywood cliches that they have managed to hold off till now. Also. "king is dead" speech at La Vele, was incredibly bad. People suddenly cheering was incredibly unbelievable. What are they cheering to? Do they really care who is the don atm? Very incongruent compared to street reality we have seen up to this point.

A bit dissapointing.

The ending that had to be
BruceWayne312 April 2022
After awhile I thought geny was a punk, I'm happy with how things ended, my only issue is with what happened to chiro, the writing with his situation should of been better, it's almost like he gave up, like he was accepting his fate. I didn't like that, for such a wild character he deserved a better ending.

Cat-and-mouse season, then this throwaway finale?
CuBO-LA15 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The entire finale hinges on one incredible unbelievable plot hole: none of Genny's men escort his ambulance to the hospital, allowing him to be delivered to Ciro on an uncontested platter. If you can get over that WTF fact in the first 5 minutes of the episode, then maybe you can enjoy everything that follows. I myself felt betrayed by sloppy lazy writing when it mattered the most to be smart about plotting.

A little disappointed
giovanraivondo20 December 2021
Not the last episode this great TV Series deserved, in my opinion. The motives of Ciro, his bitterness are not quite reflected here. The elephant in the room is the murder of Sangue Blu and not even a word about it in the episode. It could be, It must have been better. So sad.

Slightly disappointing
crfcsjn29 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Like the idea that Ciro had more emotional connection to Gennaro and couldn't bring himself to kill him. Thought this final episode was decent right up until the last few moments. I think Ciros death ,when all the shooters were apparently killed, was uncalled for.

Would have been good to see Ciro remain unscathed even though he had nothing to live for anymore. Particularly so since the series basically involved literally everyone getting killed. Ciro remains as the main character in the whole series, rightfully so.

Overall a top class series if you don't mind subtitles. Never a dull episode.

This season was the weakest and ending so disappointed
karimrahimipour13 July 2022
There were a lot of scenarios and alternatives that we can put to the end of a tv series with 58 episodes and a spin_off movie. But this one is not my favorite. Even if the ending idea and story were not so bad but the plot and how to finish are not good. For a tv series where everything was real and easy to touch a cliche, the ending is not good at all. We could see salvation repentance a regret in the characters. When the series ends everything is finished with it.

Mediocrity After So Much Excellence
Pequod8815 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The first three seasons of Gomorrah were nearly flawless. No mean feat, given the strength of Roberto Saviano's 2006 nonfiction book based on his investigative journalism, and the successful film adaptation co-written and directed by Matteo Garrone. What more could be done? The success of the series spoke to the quality of the writing, the cast, and the direction. There was plenty of action and drama, yet the larger issues of the world within Naples were not swept off stage.

The series could have ended with the close of season three, yet international acclaim led to streaming platforms and a much wider audience. Despite the absence of Ciro, whose story is related in The Immortal, the fourth season is quite successful. Genny's development continues and against his better judgement he allows the lure of the Camorra to draw him away from a good life of family and stability. While season four was quite strong, the seeds of the problems that would make for a diminished final season were planted.

The nature of the conflicts that drive a narrative go to the heart of its success or failure. The conflict established that drives the final season rings false. Genny ignores the fact that Ciro saved his life twice, choosing to focus on Ciro's silence following his miraculous recovery. Don Aniello put Ciro to work, as was seen in The Immortal. Both Ciro and Genny had their hands full.

Rather than rejoice at learning Ciro lives, Genny is bitter. His childish response will drive the events that follow, and he will never stop twisting his ring. In many important scenes, there is inexplicably little dialogue for the actors. There is dynamic action, yet there are many missed opportunities to dig deeper than a drug war genre exercise. The world within Naples becomes little more than fodder for the predictable back and forth of stolen product and reprisals.

An unlikely "jail" break and unbelievable help from a trailer of strangers sends Ciro back to Naples early in the season, where much of what follows is a pale ghost of what had been a captivating series. Believability follows plausibility into the abyss. While there is good action in the final season, one can't help but regret the simplistic set up that settled for Ciro vs Genny. Little nuance is found. It could have been so much more if the two leads had been provided a common enemy rather than the predictability of what was delivered.

Last episode was boring and weird

How genna and ciro died made no sense and was very unsatisfactory. Who were the random guys at the end that they were fighting anyways? Brutal.

The Worst
poomps_127 December 2021
Absolutely love this show. It will always be in my top 3 tv shows ever but this last episode was the absolute worst!! From start to finish it was a complete let down and such a shame as I've never felt this after watching any episode from the start.

Lazy ending.
niallmurphy-3005110 January 2022
So it's come to this. After 58 episodes Gomorra has concluded with a lazily written cop out of an ending. Us Gommora fans (particularly us Ciro fans) deserved better than this steaming pile of manure.

Season 5 review: Jumped the mediterranean shark...
joebloggscity25 January 2023
Gamorrah in this era of overdrawn and often watered down series, has been a refresher. There have been some great series, but Gamorrah for me is undoubtedly one of the very best anywhere.

However, one things for certain, somewhere along the line in the final season or two, it really has just jumped the shark badly, and this final season shows it badly.

I've loved the characters, the setting and direction. The uncomfortable viewing of these amoral characters plot and backstab each other to end up no further forward than they began has been a guilty pleasure, but the development of the lead characters was a joy.

BUT this season has been a sham, with the entire storyline to the end being almost cringingly bad. Whereas the bulk of the storylines in the seasons are something you could believe, but this season was just a melodrama and lacked any logic. More concerned with drama than the amoral crime & money making which really what gangsterism is all about.

Ciro & Gennaro were brothers, then enemies, then brothers and now enemies to brothers etc.... It just was illogical. Watching all the wannabe gangsters willing to sacrifice themselves for nothing for Ciro, like some mindless cult devotees, was truly bewildering writing. I didn't buy it.

A saving grace though was the arc wrt Mistral & his mistress, which at first seemed unconvincing but which it all the way through, it worked and I wished there was more time to further develop it. A rare joy and only thing that kept this season going.

It's a shame to end five seasons like this, but really go back to the start. The first three are classics and can be watched alone. Like with other box sets, the final season or two can be best left alone. Disappointing, but the final season doesn't ruin the rest of the seasons for me.
